RCBS trim pro vs Lyman universal

Just about to get into reloading for my .243 and I bought a Lyman Universal trimmer mainly due to the salesman's recommendations @ Scheels where I bought it but had a buddy who reloads tell me to take it back and get a RCBS trim pro and get the 3-way cutter for it.

Which one would y'all recommend and why?

Thanks.

Trevor

+2 on the Wilson. If only load for 1 cartridge the basic trimmer is fine. If plan on using for more than one, get the Sinclair upgrade with the micrometer adjustment.

The Lyman will do what you want it to do without chamfering or deburring. The RCBS 3 way does all of this in 1 pass. Speeds up the process, and if going new, I think I agree with your friend. I have both and use RCBS for 17's a Gracey for 223 because of high volume. For hunting where volume is not so high, I use the Lyman or Lee.

wilson fan for short runs and I also use a gracey powered trimmer for high volume and I must say the rcbs is pretty decent with the 3 way trimmer head.

Again, piling on here a bit, but go with the Wilson. Head and shoulders above the other options. I'd go with a Giraud for any sort of high volume trimming (competitive shooting, where you're loading in batches of 1K or so at a whack), but the Wilson gets the nod for anything more conventional like hunting or varmint rounds.

The RCBS 3-way cutter is fantastic. Trims and puts a perfect chamfer on in one step. I saw these in the store for a couple of years and kept passing them over. Finally grabbed both the 223 and 308 version. I could kick myself for waiting so long.

i have been using the RCBS with the extra cutter head and motor drive, it is excellent, i use if for PD cases, hundreds, pistol cases, thousands, and br cases in metalic hand gun comp. to complaints

after triming i measure and find no more than .0015 variation.
