RCBS SUMMIT PRESS

I suppose that with the proper maintenance, this press would be ok.
It's probably evident that I have a ax to grind with old American companies who are now farming out products to China, and will not support them as long as there are other options.

Before criticizing it might be a good idea to do a little research. Start here:

RCBS has a new made-in-USA single-stage reloading press.

Lots of companies have adopted "Made In USA" policies over the years. I used to work for one that brought every single product they made "back into the US for manufacture". Unfortunately it didn't do a thing for their market share at all. Most people were solely concerned about PRICE and it's a fact that foreign labor is far cheaper than US labor.

I'm aware where the press is made, I wonder where it's cast? I'm also aware where many of their other products are made. They went to Mexico with their scale production and a lot of people said those were junk, so now they are coming from China. Perhaps they can get it right.
We all have the option of supporting any company we wish so I will support a company like Redding.
Where will everyone work when NOTHING is made in the USA?
Now, back to the press discussion. I read all the tweaks you did to make yours work so you must be pretty good with mechanical things. Once again, if the ram gets any lost motion in it, die alignment will be history. Many people are less mechanically inclined so what are they supposed to do?
Another feature I dislike is having to reach over my head to reach the handle. With the arthritis I have now, that would be very uncomfortable.
I've owned my Rockchucker since 1976 and the only thing I've ever done to it is to remove the pins occasionally to apply some grease and a put little lube on the ram. It's as good now as it's ever been.
I doubt many people will be saying that about their Summit after that many years use.

Considering the amount the castings contribute to the press's total content, and Federal rules on claiming "US Made", I'd say that they're probably cast right here in the good old USA.

As for being "mechanically adept, or not" people who can't figure out how to operate an allen wrench/end wrench should probably reconsider hand loading as a hobby.

Lastly, just because something's not made in the US doesn't automatically make it junk. In many cases it can make it far superior. Many foreign manufacturers are using state of the art equipment and techniques in their processes and our US manufacturers are hanging on to systems left over from WWII.

In the end, buy what you like. THAT's the American Way.

Wondering if this would be a good scale for just seating long bullets for a 338 LM and 30 Nosler?

Having clearance issues with my Redding Big Boss II, seating 215-Hybrids in a 300WM case.
