RCBS SIDEWINDER WITH SS MEDIA

XXPER

Silver $$ Contributor
Has anyone used a RCBS siderwinder tumbler to wet clean their brass using stainless steel media.
If so how did it work and what recipe of Dawn and Lemon shine /water did you use.
I have ordered media and any information is welcomed.
Thank you,
xxper

The RCBS SideWinder has worked well for me in the past 20+yrs.
I add a 1/2 oz of RCBS SideWinder liquid & a squirt of dish washer detergent & tumble for 1-1/2hrs.

I have dedicated drums for Carnuba Wax/Moly/STM/Walnut/Un-treated CornCob depending on the task at hand.

I had thought about using SS media. but decided against it. I had used small headed brass furniture tacks (1/2" long) 30 years ago. For years after I kept getting the odd brass tack in my brass. They got stuck where the bottom is attached to the drum. Not a good Idea in my opinion. I feel it would be worse with the shorter SS pins.

I do the same as Dan40x without the soap going on 15 years now with the same tumbler. Use the RCBS sidewinder liquid media you wont be sorry. The brass stays shiny with absolutely no tarnishing.

I don't know if it is worse than your brass pins, but the SS pins do get stuck in there and you will still be getting them out a half dozen loads after you stop using them.

In addition, I was never comfortable with pins. Just could never get rid of the nagging feeling that one might be left lurking in a case no matter how well I tried to rinse them out. So I split a 10 lb bag of jewelers ball cone media with a friend and have never looked back. The ball cones separate out super easy and I think they actually clean better. The extra weight the individual ball cones seems to break up the carbon inside the case better. I have only used it on .308 and pistol brass so I can not speak to whether it may or may not bridge on other calibers. I suppose if does, I still have 5lbs of pins on the shelf.
