RCBS PRimer Pocket Swager-2 How Deep?

Trying out the RCBS Primer Pocket Swager-2 for the first time and have a question on how deep onto the swager head do I need to go? In the pic, 1 is where the swager starts to flare out and 2 is just straight section of the swager. Am I going deep enough by just staying on the straight (2) section of the swager or do I want to go onto the flare part of the swager?

I've considered the best primer pocket as the one that holds the primer the tightest, so I'd suggest pushing the swager in just far enough so that the crimp is removed and the primer seats without a hitch.

is all this brass one lot ?
if not you are in for a real mess.
you need to be at least some of the radius to get a smooth start when seating
the primer. if they catch on a square edge the crush.

I have brass sorted to brand, Lake City, RORG, PSD.
So I need to get into the flare part of the swage to do it correctly?

I was going to swage all of the primer pockets then size the cases. I will now full length them first, then swage a them one at time and install primer to get a feel if I am doing it correctly.

Try a couple cases (the most beaten) screwing the Pocket swagger a little at a time then try to seat your primers. If you need to crush the primer in.... It's too tight screw it a little more. You need to look for an average.
Repeat these steps for each different lots/brands of cases.

I've got one and it's pretty easy to set up. Set it so you cam over because it reduces the effort. From my experience you can't really over swage the pocket. No matter how much pressure I used, the primers were still nice and firm going in. The more you swage in the less of a ridge you will have which makes for smoother priming later. Was much easier than I thought it would be to use. Plus you only have to do it once.

You have to get the flare portion of the swager to radius the sharp edge of the pocket.

Any particular reason why you will FL size 1st then swage?? Trying to learn here, not being critical. Is sizing 1st better/easier/more consistent than swaging first??

I prefer to size before swaging. My reason is - when you swage you create a slight roll of brass as you displace the sharp edge of the crimp. This roll will be on the case head until you fire the brass the first time. It will increase the measure case datum to head measurement. Not much, but I see about 0.001" increase due to the brass ridge.

You can do either first, but that is why I size first.

Not mentioned, but when you swage brass the rod that goes inside the cartridge can "mash" the burr left from punching the flash hole. It can restrict the opening for the flash hole. Not a big deal for me since I deburr the flash holes after swaging.

On the RCBS swager, the button bottoms out at the bottom of the primer pocket. You can't get too much of a swage.
