RCBS Competition Powder Measure

If anyone has one of these please chime in. I just bought one of these and I cannot figure out how to get the hopper of (if it comes off) in order to clean all of the powder out? I can dump powder but what about all of the residual in the bottom?

Thanks

Why would you want to remove the hopper?

Unless they resigned their powder measure to trap powder in the hopper, mine is 40+ years old and I never removed the hopper and never had a need to remove it. To remove the powder I simply dump it from the measure into the powder container using a funnel to prevent spillage. Make sure you work the handle a few times to remove any in the measuring cylinder.

Mine has powder sticking to the sides.
Maybe I did not clean it well enough and get any residue out prior to initial use.

What has worked well for me is to attach a dryer sheet or two to the outside of the powder thrower, held in place with rubber bands. I live in the west where the summers are extremely dry so static builds easily. Using dryer sheets as I do has eliminated static.

After I empty mine, I put 2 used dryer sheets into the hopper, leave them until the next loading session. My older measure seems less static holding then my 2nd.

Test out your dryer sheet on a mirror or something before wiping the inside of the hopper. A lot of brands use wax as a fabric conditioner; that will coat the hopper and compound your sticking problem (well, on reflection, it will replace your sticking problem, as it will no longer be caused by static.)

I'd try lightly dusting the interior with powdered graphite, followed by an incomplete wipe-down or brushing (chip brushes work well for cleanup - I keep a few in my loading bench drawers.) Blowing it out would probably work as well. Then use Heavy Metal's exterior dryer sheet trick to prevent further static buildup.

Used dryer sheet still reduces static and eliminates the wax build up problem, too. I can always find a used dryer sheet on the floor after my kids do laundry, so I just change them out on occasion, lol!

You might have to take it apart. I ran into this problem last week. I finished loading a batch of 45 ACP using Power Pistol. After I emptied the hopper, I noticed flakes of powder sticking to the sides. I pulled it apart and cleaned out 3-4 grains of powder that were clinging to the sides. That would have made my new Dasher test loads pretty interesting!
