RCBS Chargemaster Overthrow

Great! Congrats on your solution. Too bad we have to go through these gyrations. I can only assume that it's hard to engineer it to work around every possible granule size.

Since the drinking straws i had were too thin, I used a spare part from my Dillon XL 650 press. You know the yellow cap for picking small pistol/rifle primers into the primer tube, fitted perfectly into the trickler tube of the Charge Master.

This evening I loaded 50 rds with 31 gr VV N150, with no over trickles! Before it over trickled at least every 7-8 charges with this powder. Since this cap traps the powder at the end of the trickler tube before it is thrown into the pan, the speed is reduced but I'm very pleased, anyway. To trickle 31 grs it takes about 25 seconds but overall, I guess the toal time spent is about the same, but without the irritating aspect of trowing powder back :)

Yeah Sorry, I forgot to mention that it required a big fat sugar slurping straw from a USA McD....

I'm glad you found an acceptable substitute solution short of reprogramming and rewiring the unit.

I was having the same problem with over charges on my Chargemaster. After reading this post, I headed to Mickey D's and ordered a Coke and asked for an extra straw. I tried Kevin's suggestion, and it helped immensely. This is a good idea that works. Thanks Kevin.

I'm yet to try the drinking straw but I have found that the input voltage afects accuracy and 'throw' time. I purchased the product in the US and brought it back to Australia. Because of the voltage/frequency and socket differences, I had to use a generic power pack. I chose one that had a 9V output and 1000mA rating, because the original US one had this info stamped on it). Frustration pursued when the quickest 'throw time' was well over a minute, but I never had an overthrow. I borrowed a mates unit which had the European power pack, still labeled as 9V 1000 mA). It threw loads in around 25 secs. I checked the output voltage of the European unit and found it was closer to 13V. I've since purchased a 12V power pack and enjoying the 25 second 'throw time' for a 46 grain load with the occasional overthrow, maybe 0.1 grain over for 1 in 30).

Can someone confirm the output voltage of their unit,in the US)?

Instead of a straw, why not use heat shrink tubing, just shrink it onto the end of the dispense tube, with NO powder in the tube)
