RCBS CaseMaster Gauge

When checking bullet runout in loaded rounds with the referenced tool, it would appear to me that the actual bullet runout is 1/2 of the extreme spread indicated by the needle on the dial indicator.

In other words, if the needle moves 4 "tick marks",thousandths), your actual runout would be .002".

Am I looking at this correctly?

Thanks

I have never thought about that before.

I have always reported runout as the total amount the indicator moves. Maybe that is why I can't seem to get my rounds very concentric when compared to other people.

I know this does not help you but I would like to know the answer too.

Thank you, gentlemen.

I did email tech support at RCBS, and my assumption was correct. Whatever "extreme spread" is indicated on the dial, your actual runout is 1/2 of that.

Once again, thank you.

Cool. I have always thought runout was reported as total. This makes my rounds quite a bit better in that area.

Actually, I was always wondering how anyone could get only 0.001 runout or less. My rounds would usually measure 0.002 or more with 0.001 on rare occasions, but that is the total indicator value.

I am not so hung up on numbers but I at least wanted to get close to what other people are reporting. Looks like I am so I can stop trying every little thing to try and reduce my numbers.
