RCBS 505....equivalent?

I have borrowed out my 505 RCBS mechanical scale for a bit to a new reloader. I am needing to get it back from him and was going to recommend he get the 505 since I like it a lot. Looks like they aren't being made anymore. Anyone using the other RCBS mechanical scales still being sold? Are they as good as the RCBS 505? I know eBay has the 505, but I'm asking about the quality of the RCBS as they are sold now.

Don

Id get an old one off ebay. Better yet buy one from scott parker already tuned and give him your old one. Or even better for a new reloader get him a $50 digital scale like an mtm arrow scale or frankford arsenal. A dillon d-terminator is a great scale as well- id take that anyday over an old beam scale

Don, I have a newer 505 (chinese made) that came in a rcbs master kit a couple of years ago. I would ship this to a Silver Contributor at no cost whatsoever. If you’re interested just shoot me a PM with an address once the upgrade kicks in and I will ship it out within a day or two.

Thanks,
Mark

E-Bay is a great place to pick up a used scale. Ask to see more pictures to check the condition and look at the bottom for the "Ohaus" name. Be patient some go fast. I scored 2 RCBS 1010's for under $100.00

Unfortunately over the last 8-10 years, before they were dropped from the catalogue, all RCBS scales were made in Mexico or China. These scales still have "Ohaus, NJ" cast in the base. The only way to tell is if you have the original cardboard box that says where it was actually manufactured.

Redding master 2 scale are nice, esp the older brownish colored ones. When I spoke with Scott P
few yrs back, he said he really liked this one. Got mine off eBay.
+1 on this...They are great scales for the money, simple and sensitive . I have one and also the 5-0-5 ,I like them both but like the dampening on the 5-0-5 so use that one more . I tried the 50 dollar electronic scales like mentioned earlier in this thread ,in my opinion a person would be better served to save their money and spend up if going the electronic route.

I dont understand all the hype about the chinese made RCBS scales. I have a 10-10 that I bought new and it will weigh right w/my AD digital scale. Its just a matter of what you want to believe in. LDS

When used with great care the Chinese made 5-0-5 that I’m sending will weigh right with my Scott Parker tuned Lyman.

I got in the habit of bumping the 5-0-5 to make sure it settled in the same place everytime. Occasionally there would be some slight variations. Not enough to be a safety issue and maybe not even enough to be an accuracy issue but it bothered me. I can bump my Parker tuned scale all day long and it will settle on the exact same spot every time.

I may not be any better off but I choose to believe that I am....lol

I have one Redding Model 2. I like it a lot. I like it almost as much as my M5, and a little more than my 10•10 and others. They are also available new. They are rarely found used on eBay and other sites, if that means anything.

I've purchased two Redding master 2 scales on eBay.

I tuned up a recent production, Chinese made 10-10 and comparing it to an old one that is also tuned, the only issue is that the magnetic damping is not as strong. The quality of the parts and finish are excellent.

Tough to tell about anything anymore. 1066 where did you this information I would like to follow up on this as my two 1010's are different shades of green. Dont mean to high jack.

Rarely, infrequently, not *never*.

There must be fewer of them on eBay now. Maybe everyone wanting to hold on to them.
I used to watch for them all the on eBay & seems you have to keep checking. I found an older
one on eBay about 8 yrs ago that was in good shape. I went an bought a brand new master 2 thinking it would be better than the one i bought off eBay. Guess what... The older one i got off eBay was much better. The new one would never come back to the same place even with the same weight. I sent it back & kept the older one.
