RCBD Precision Mic Thoughts

After spotting a “like new” RCBS Precision Mic for sale at a great price on Amazon’s Warehouse Deals section, I picked one up in 223 using my points.

Although I just played with it a little bit, I think I am going to like using it better than my Hornady Comparator.

How do you guys feel about it vs other options?

I use both. Personally I think the RCBS is a bit more consistent and accurate as they are case specific. The Hornady is faster for sure but the design is itself inherently sloppy. I probably have 7 of the case mics and they are versatile in family chamberings.

My only mention is that i wouldn't trust the numbers from one too to the next, meaning I'm not bothering to share my RCBS mic readings with friends; but it's a fantastic and fast measurement for relative changes and verifying my own set up from my own collected data. i use mine every time I'm setting up dies.

Here is the one whidden makes. Its very solid.
Here is the best one ive used that i wish somebody would make in various calibers

I like them and have used them for a long time.

I have one that is a tic off scale when I throw in a chamber gage, but that doesn't bother me at all.
Several others are right on their zero and so are the ones I have from John Whidden.

As far as the other options and methods, it just takes a little more manipulation to drop in a case and screw the tool together and then remove it. This isn't as fast as using something like a indicator set up for when you are going to check many samples and want to run through them fast, but I still like having these around when setting up a sizing die.

Works & the cost is a little time.

The RCBS and Whidden are both great, self-contained methods of checking bump, but I really like the Redding Instant Indicator for quick and totally repeatable results when a press is handy.
