I think where a custom rifle begins to shine is when the shooter starts to engage small varmints past 300 yards. Once you start to shoot past 300 yards, you need all the accuracy you can get when shooting at targets like Ground Squirrels and Pdogs.

IMHO, a factory rifle does not even come close to a custom rig. Every once in a while a factory rifle will shoot as good as a custom rifle. The chance of getting a factory rifle that shoots like a custom is very rare, however, it does happen.

I do not totally agree with you Custom guns are better beyond 300 yards. Most of my dog shooting is beyond 300 yards. I have two 100% custom guns just for shooting dogs. Plus four factory rifles. When one goes beyond 300 yards wind is such a critical factor. If you can not read wind you are lost no matter what type of gun you are using. I also have to admit my longest shot of 700 yards came from a semi- custom rifle. But what I consider the best shot was with a factory varmint rig on a double at 550 yards. I will honestly admit that with a custom rig one can dictate the rifle twist to optimize his distance shooting. Which is a huge advantage. When I wear out the barrels of one of my factory guns. I will no doubt buy a good custom barrel and kept it in a 6mm.
