Rapid rod for 20 cal.

I see the rapid Rod only goes down to 22 caliber. What do you guys carry in the field to say unstick a bullet out of a 20 caliber that's portable.

I've never had a stuck bullet in a centerfire rifle or pistol in about 45 years of shooting and reloading, so I don't tend to worry about it much. If I did have one, I'd probably go home and fix it. Don't think I'd want to use "Rapid Rod".

I spent over 500 bucks for my .20 barrel, and I would proceed very carefully. jd

Living the Boy Scout motto: Being prepared. I have seen the need for a rod in the dog patch and have saved the day for some of my friends. I have always put a 17 cal rod in a PVC tube behind the back seat of the truck.
The 3 piece rods were never long enough for me.

I do most of my load developing at the range and carry two cleaning rods in 1/2 PVC pipe one with the proper size jag and one with the brush-- I have NEVER had a round stuck BUTT am prepared if I do

Just buy a 36'' piece of steel rod from your local steel supplier. I also carry a piece of wood dowel for the easy to remove ones.

I am always prepared in the event. I buy a solid brass rod 36" long, 3/16" diameter. Just let a short gravity drop do the work.

The only time I did have this happen was on 204 Ruger in cold weather with little bullet seating depth (trying to reach the lands) and a slow burning powder. Primer fired, powder didn't. But the result was a bullet into the lands.

Don't try to drive it out with a wooden dowel! There are plenty of horror stories out there about the wood splitting and jamming very tightly.

JDS- I agreee that these barrels are too expensive to be careless with but in my case I didn't think I had a choice but I am always carefull and slow when something like this happens to me.(Slow is my middle name !). I bought a 20 Practical and out of the first 20 rounds I fired 12 would not extract from the chamber. I never had a Rem 700 extractor fail before and at first I wasn't sure why it was happening with starting loads. I am glad I had that cleaning rod with me at the time. I had to send the bolt to Greg Tannel for a new extractor to be installed. End of problemj with the extractor.
I have fired over 50,000 rounds down Rem 700 actions at prairie dogs over the years and this was the first extractor problem I have had.And last I hope.I always bring a rod with me .Don't leave home without it!

A chunk of a brazing rod dropped into the muzzle will knock a case or bullet out and you can cut one and tape it in the top of your ctg box
