Ranges near Atlanta GA ?...

Hi Folks,

My Son and his girlfriend just moved to Atlanta and are looking for a range/ranges to join for casual shooting . They will be shooting handguns and 22 rimfire rifle to start. I would appreciate any help in finding something along these lines, the more low key the better...but if they have to deal with crowds that's fine too. Anywhere within reasonable distance of Atlanta would be great. Thanks in advance.

What is a reasonable distance?
There is MGGOA, Middle Georgia Gun Owners, Twin Oaks, at Dublin, Ga.
Then there is River Bend near Dawsonville, Ga.
Come to think of it, River Bend has just about everything there.

Also Cherokee at Gainesville and South River to the east in Conyers area.
For indoor I know my good friends at Governor's Club have a great facility in Powder Springs/Hiram area and another brand new one that includes indoor shotgun and rifle ranges over in Kennesaw.
A person just about can't turn a corner around the ATL area without seeing a nice indoor range.

Thanks guys, this is what I was hoping to read . They went to an indoor range and rented pistols once so far .I'm not sure of the laws but I think they have to become legal residents to buy long guns ? Also, can anyone guide me to the laws on handguns ? He has a New York State pistol permit, was wondering what hoops a person needs to jump through to get them transferred ...waiting periods, etc .

They only have sundays off so a range within 50 miles would be ideal, less travel time the better .

Lol...waiting periods? Transfers? Keep that crap in NY. He’s moving to Georgia!! Bill of Rights lovin, gun totin, big truck drivin, farmin, Huntin, beer drinkin, Americans down here!

I’m in Macon, Georgia. There’s a 600 yard range 45 miles outside of Atlanta by a decent sized town called Covington, Georgia. My brother lives in midtown and shoots every weekend at local indoor ranges. Atlanta’s for the birds. I’ll stay a little further south and enjoy my guns to their fullest potential.

If he wants to come further south I can take him to my range in Macon. Also there is literally a world class trap and skeet range in Monroe county Georgia called the meadows gun club. I used to shoot there every weekend from 6th-12th grade. I get out there every once in a while too.

Thanks, will pass that along .600 yard would be great once he gets established . He will start buying from scratch down there, much easier than the crap we go through up here . He was amazed just how gun friendly everyone is . We live as far from NYC as you can get but Cuomo's crazy SAFE act screws us all...even us up here in south Canada.

Talladega CMP is a great facility, a bit further then you mentioned but you save time not having to go down range or do pit duty since you have a monitor next to you showing where your shots land, that is if they are interested in rifle shooting at 200/300/600 yards. You have a lot of space at the rifle range, you are not stacked up on top of people like in an indoor range. The first couple of pics show the 600 yard firing line: https://imgur.com/a/KUMDZ

Thanks, that would be a great option for Him . His main interest is rifle at 2-600 . He found a quickshot(?) around the corner to get his feet wet. Talladega looks ideal,I just looked through the images...looks like him and myself will have to take a roadtrip when I go down to visit. T

If you guys pass through Macon, I can take you to my range. It’s called Marion road gun club. Really nice facility.

Riverbend is a great facility. Great setting, lots of ranges, pistol, rifle, cowboy, black powder, and shotgun. GOOD PEOPLE

I heard that it is closed for renovations now, but there is a public range at Wilson Shoals that will be 100 yards when it opens back up in Feb and access comes with any GA hunting or fishing license. It can be busy on weekends, but very quiet and low key during the week.
