Range report - 223 with 75 A-Max

Dan: And in that sense, I too can agree: if the referenced dimension is thought of as just that, a reference only. But for the true distance from the bullets ogive point-of-contact with the rifling, a dimension that is unique with each rifles chamber, it is not the true throat depth or length-to-ogive. If using the Stone Point/Hornady gauge with the ogive gauge attached, you will get a different measurement than you will with the Sinclair nut, so that would confuse the issue even more. Adding the nut width of 1" across the flats, and thinking of that as a true dimension, would add 1" to whatever the point-of-contact really is.

You are correct and so am I. We both stated that we got the measurement WITH an ogive measuring tool. As stated in my other post my measurement is 1.910 when I SUBTRACT the nut. But the man did say his measurement was WITH the tool, and he was told he was wrong. No one here is wrong.

Dan

And the question was asked in the begining "What OAL are you using? What chamber is the Shilen? Wylde?"

And then this add and inch to the OGIVE started.......

No one ever ever said they where WRONG, I said TYPO....I was expecting to see an Over All Length listed not what was, I've done it before, and extra 0 or an . where it's not suppose to be......

"I'm wondering if the concept of ogive measuring is to much for your minds to grasp. If so, you should stick with off the shelf factory ammo. As I do not want to be next to you at the range when you shoot your handloads."

I wish you could lay next to me on the line......then you'd see how well my loads do work! Back to back 1st Place 2008 & 2009 Peru F/TR Champion, 2009 Vermont State F/TR Champion, maybe you'll be at the Nationals in March?

;) Easy fellas, I'm just simply showing how the man got a # in the 2.9 range for an ogive measurement. That's all ! Any measurement given out of the net should be heeded only as a reference or guide line anyway in my opinion. All guns very in chamber dimensions. Not to mention uncalibrated measuring devices.

Taildrag I do not wish to lay next to you as I am happily married and do not swing that way ! lol But the invitation is flattering and I'm very happy you are 1st Place 2008 & 2009 Peru F/TR Champion, 2009 Vermont State F/TR Champion.

this thread is getting to be too much. I have been checking in on it just to get a good laugh.

How about this, I am seating my bullets to a measurement of 2.950 from base to O-give using a hornaday/stoney point comparator.

Did you notice i did NOT mention OAL? HAHA I love a good debate.

Well, hell then, I'll play.

Mines 2.430", overall length, base to bullet tip, seated into the lands with a square mark on the bullet.

But then, mines a Rock barreled, 8 twist, with a .223 Match reamer. ;D

The real question is how does tail sort bullets? What does he call that dimension? Just a heads up my stoney jig measures 1.002 exactly, not the previously advertised 1.000" so make sure you subtract 1.002" from my measurements. Hey Dan can you post up the exact size of the hole in your sinclair nut because I want to make sure my stoney hole is the same size as your's?
