Range know it alls !

Hi guys !

Just a quick vent . My buddy and I were at the range over the weekend and I was changing his Savage barrel for him . These 2 clowns came over and wouldn’t leave us alone . I’ve done this many times , so I’m not a newbie at it . I held my tongue , but next time I won’t. I’ve been told guys at the range are more than willing to help , but guys , please wait till you are asked for your help ! Otherwise u make yourself look like a know it all !

Unless they became an untenable annoyance or a potential danger, I would not get too upset. Certainly do not let it ruin your day! I have had many, many exasperating experiences with "the public">>>> let it go!

I work 60 hours M-F . When I’m at the range I’m there to shoot , not Yak. I know some people enjoy this , but I don’t have a lot of time . All I’m saying is PLEASE wait till I ask for help !

Hey! I am on your side! All I am saying is to not let it bother you to the point that it ruins your day!

I wish I could have done that , but yes it ruined my day . So bad it makes me not want to go when people are there ! Then these other guys show up and sit right next to me with AK-47s and start dumping 30 round mags and complaining that they can’t hit anything ! Lol ! It wasn’t a good range day !

Well....I apologize if you took my advice wrongly...I just wanted to make sure you were putting that barrel on correctly.

OOPS! Nevermind, I am a day late...it is 4/2 today, isn't it;).

Now...back to my Creedmoor....

I tend to enjoy talking with fellow shooters at the range. Though the only time I am at a range and not shooting a match, I am load developing, which usually goes pretty quickly. Where I go, I am almost always the only bench rest shooter, so I get lots of questions. But I enjoy talking with people who have common interest, people who are wanting to and willing to learn, and maybe even learn something myself. Some people just cant help it but to want to offer to help. I may be guilty of it myself.

I guess if I saw someone changing a barrel at the range, I would be interested as to what was going on, and may strike up a conversation as well. Sorry if that bothers you. Though if I noticed the person I approached starting to appear annoyed, or short with me, I would just move on.

So, you work half days? I'm kidding...I usually will offer my help only when I see someone is definitely struggling with whatever it may be they are trying to achieve. Providing I can definitely assist them with whatever the issue may be.

I hear you Mark, So little quality range time, so many talkers.. I feel your pain. I try so hard to do my LR BR testing 8 to about 10 am. The coffee klatch crowd is just way too annoying. I have not yet figured a polite way to get rid of them...Mike in Ct

When I go to the range, I like to take my time. I take a nice fold-able chair and between barrel cooling, I sit and relax. I usually have a buddy with me and we are there four or five hours. Somebody wants to talk to us we take the time and enjoy the conversation. Of course we are both retired as well as several other of our friends how will show up most times. Because of the bench rest equipment we bring, lot's of folks want to discuss our equipment. that's fine with us.

I can certainly see why someone would be interested in a discussion, when they witness you changing a barrel. Not something you see every day at a range.

Now if I was deeply involved in something and I felt as distracted as you seem to have, I would simply tell the intruder that I am sorry, but I really need to concentrate on this project and do not need the distraction right now. I would do this in a very nice manner. being polite. Problem solved and I won't go home with my panties in a bunch.

It wasn’t they were interested in what I was doing . They were making sure I was doing it the way they do it . People don’t realize that there are 10 different ways to do something . Im a Supervisor in a CNC machine shop with 40 years experience . I just might know what I’m doing ! And yes my panties were in a fierce bunch ! Lol

Those young working guys have to spend all of their time working and so they don’t have enough free time to gain knowledge about the shooting sports. It’s only natural for us retired guys to help by sharing our superior knowledge now that we have unlimited time for the pursuit of shooting sports knowledge. :)

I find benchrest equipment keeps the know it alls at bay. They are usually more curious than anything about the rest setup and I get more questions than anything else about the carbon fiber mirage shield.
Of course they all assume it’s a 6.5 creed.

In most cases u are so correct ! Myself , I live and breath shooting and research it to death . I shot every weekend through the winter so I can be good at this sport I love . Nothing wrong with sharing knowledge . Just wait to be asked !

If I see someone struggling at the range I sit idly by and continue doing my thing . If asked , then I will offer some help .

I use to do that till I witnessed the struggling guys' gun have a major problem and blow the bolt thru his shoulder. Now I speak up or get the RO . Somethings should be stopped before its to late . That was a nice Mauser , poor gun didn't deserve to go boom .

Im getting older and don’t have a lot of patience anymore ! Lol

Do you have any public boat ramps nearby??? If so then I suggest you and a buddy go there, get a parking spot where you have a good view of the ramp itself and watch the morons in action.....this has proven to be very good therapy for anyone that gets sick and tired of the general public and their unwanted help. If you really want to make it interesting, take some money and you and your buddy can bet what the next idiot is going to do, or not do. It's a blast and way better than the garbage they put on tv these days.
I guarantee you will feel a lot better, a lot happier and refreshed when you get back home.
