Range finder opinions

With about 60 years experience and using lots of glass but only 2 range finders, I feel I finally have the very best the modern world has to offer. I use 10X 42 binoculars, I can't spell or pronounce, Leica range finder and old Bausch &Lomb 15 to 60X spotting scope. If I miss it is because of the yahoo in the morning mirror. I was a surveyor, good glass scopes, binoculars and range finders is important, Prairie dogging and looking all day, quality is needed. Equipment is not a place to be cheap, it goes on every trip, have some pride in ownership. Shoot old guns, my 25-06 is approaching 60 Y.O. and still works great.

Buy once but when your high dollar rangefinders disappear......

My prairie dog and whitetail outfit are the before mentioned $150 Leupold range finder and $99 Leupold 10x25 Rogue binoculars. Works fine for me but I will say I'm not "glassing" into the next county.

I have both the leupold 1400i and a leica 2800.com and the main difference is the loopys optics are crap in late afternoon light and only 5x .
Out to 1200 y they are both within 2y and I like the leicas auto brightness it's a great feature .
Now the most important feature thing for me in a RF is beam divergence and the leica wins hands down I even checked it with my night vision so if you are looking to beam small targets get the leica but if it's just targets and deer size it won't matter much .

Cheers

Doesn't do any good if your low dollar won't even work. Take care of your $hit and don't have to worry about it. Ive had my Leica 1200 since it first hit the market, been to Colorado, N.M. Nevada. Wyoming and all over the mountains of Montana and still works like the first day I bought it.. PERFECT.

Same here Sherm, can't remember when they first came out, but I purchased mine at that time too. It got a bit goofy with readings, called Leica CS and got an RMA, it came back perfect and has been so ever since (20+ years?).

I've tried friends other brands and models, but other than the Geovid, which is a tad spendy, the little LRF-1200 seems to be the hot ticket and it's still working, so it ain't gonna get "fixed" (read: replaced).

As has been mentioned....buy once, cry once. Sure does apply here. In our world, optics is one area one should not scrimp.

So here is my experience. No doubt that the Leica is an outstanding product. I know it is probably the best. Saying that I only use a Range finder to shoot at a grand hog less than 7 times a year. So this is why I thought the sale on the Leupold or another model in that price range would be all I need. The Leupold was normally around 200.00. My analogy would be I need a mower to mow my yard and it is a very small yard that takes only 10 minutes to push mow. Plus I only have to mow the yard one time every 3 weeks. I do not need to save up money to purchase a really nice zero turn 35hp Skag mower. Kind off over kill. My buddy has a Leica and yes it is nice. On the other hand I borrowed a 32 year old Nikon and we got the exact same readings out to 450 yards. Never did we test yardage that wasn’t exact same or one yard difference. Now I’m sure if we went beyond 500 the Leica would have been the clear winner.

Crooks had one that was Almost accurate out to 140 yards.

Certainly Thankful that “they” supplied him with a cheap one!
Don’t get that kind.
