Range Carts

I am in need of a good " ramge cart " that will hold 3 rifles, 1 front rest, farley) misc. ammo, rear bags, crono w/screens. spotting scope, etc. Besides Creedmore, are there other options? What does everyone else use to get the multitudes of stuff down to the range.?

gbp,

What a lot of the Cowboy action guys to is buy a cheap dolly,$25.00) from Harbor Freight, Walmart etc., then attach a big wooden box or milk crate to the base.

Across the top it's easy to clamp a wood bracket, with notches) on one side to hold the barrels and a wooden box on the other side to hold ammo, muffs etc.

Be sure to check the balance of the whole rig, with guns in place, before you finalize the position of the barrel bracket and ammo box. The cart should stand on its own.

This $45 welding cart from harbor freight works well too, but you'll have to fabricate brackets for the rifle etc.:

My very first range cart was a Red Flyer wagon. It was too small for the rest to sit in it, but you could startle the end with two of the legs and the rear sat in the wagon. I got it for Nationals in the US, cheap I am! $20 I think it was.

Here's my next attempt. I found this cart under a river bridge in the rocks so I took it home and shortened the up rights so I can take it apart via wing nuts on the bottom four corners and she fits in the truck of my Jetta! The handle has a cutter key you can pull so that comes off too. I have seen them in one of the hardware stores too. I made and added a 3 rifle-cleaning cradle out of some scrap steel and right angle aluminium. Added some rubber hose and glue after cutting it to fit my widest rifle, fore and aft, and connected some buggy cords so you will not ever bounce the rifle out of the cart. Total cost for me, maybe $10, but the cart itself maybe around $100, I have not priced it out. I like the big wheels, you can load her right up and it is still easy to pull by hand, regardless of terrain.

I have only used it once at a range north of my place, just as a test for fit etc in the truck and to save a few steps, you have to haul your stuff to the line at this range and it's about 40 yds or so, plus I use it for cleaning at home and the odd job as a cart hauling stuff around the yard! I mostly shoot LR and you can drive your car right up to the line so I don't use it. The only place I would use this would be a BR match were you have to rotate benches for each target, like a Nationals, or for Ottawa for the CFRC, if I ever go.

Just keep in mind at some ranges you are required to keep guns muzzle up or muzzle down--horizontal transport is not allowed. That may sound silly, but you can understand why. That's why a hand-truck or dolly style set-up works pretty well.

My cart does "point" the rifles to the ground, about 5 ft past the cart, or to the sky if you seat the rifle in the cleaning caddle backwards :) Plus, as long as there is a chamber flag in the action or the bolt is pulled and laying on the cart or in my bolt holster, who cares the direction of the muzzle? If it will make the line Officer/Match director feel better, I will put a chamber guide and a 48" cleaning rod in the barrel with a piece of red tape on it too :)

If need be, I could add 3 holders in the rear of the wagon for the butt or barrel, but that would be pushing it to still fit in the trunk of the Jetta, Ha!

Guys, check out today's Bulletin. I put up some pictures of the Creedmore Range Cart,$499), plus plans for a home-built wood cart. I also explained how to build a "cheap 'n easy" cart from an inexpensive Harbor Freight hand truck, under $30).

Here's another option

ThanX for everyones help. I forgot to mention that the range I normally use requires barrel up due to having a concrete floor.
Great suggestions
