Ramshot TAC

So I gotta ask, does anyone elese get crazy velocity jumps with this stuff ?
Like today I had a 5rd group that was 2850 on the lowest and 2979 on the highest. Thought I was something I was doing wrong to cause all this jumping but then loaded five rounds with some 8208xbr did every thing the same ( different powder charge though , using book data.) The and the highest was 3370 lowest 3322.

And just looking though my notes , crazy spreads like with what I got today are just " normal "with TAC.

Did I just get a bad can or something? Or should it be due to our weather ? Temps fluctuate like crazy here in MS especially during the winter.

What cartridge? What's the load density? Ball powder often works better when close to max and if it's not may not be as consistent. How is it on paper? If it's good, don't worry about the chronograph.

Just .223. it's right at the shoulder , not sure what that would be . Paper.... Egh.
seems every bullet that has a crazy velocity jump goes somewhere else

Hmm. If you're getting widely divergent velocities with different powders, maybe the chrono is having issues.

What kind of ES & SD were you expecting? 5 shots really aren't enough to have much confidence in. I've found TAC likes to be loaded near the upper end. But getting low ES & SD in a 223 doesn't happen that often for me. Here is a load using TAC I shot prairie dogs with one year. Notice my loading vs yours, and mine was with a 50 gr bullet.

Simply put that's the wrong powder for your application. What works great for someone else may not work the same for you. That's why I always do a powder test with three powders before I settle on one for my load work. Best extreme spread of the three will be my powder for load work. Incidentally things like bullet shape and weight, seating depth, bullet tension, and ignition and really mess with extreme spreads. I've used Tac and have never had the extreme spreads you speak of.

The first time i ever reloaded the scale were crazy. A friend was helping and when I asked the next weekend to do the same he showed up with his scales. He was adamant that mine were screwed up and I told him we could use his or just turn off the ceiling fan and use mine that were already set up. All was good after that. Much of this stuff is learned the hard way.
