Rain Buddy

Very seldom these days, in my experience, does a product perform as advertised let alone exceed expectations but I recently had such an experience.

Twice this summer I've gotten soaked including my expensive varmint rifle when I was hit with an unexpected cloud burst of rain. I don't mind getting wet, it's just water but I don't want my rifle getting soaked. So I went on the net to see if I could find something to protect my rifle that was easily carried and effective.

I purchase a product called a Rain-Buddy gun sock. It's nylon, totally water proof, and fit easily in my pocket. It was exactly what I needed - hope I don't get to try it however this summer. :)

If you're interested check them out at www.rain-buddy.com. It's a great product for the hunter.

I own an use a couple of the Solo Hunter rain guards, but I have to admit the Rain Buddy is a better mousetrap, after seeing a couple in use in Colorado last fall.

Does the rifle slip in one end like a gun-sock, and will rifle with larger scope go in alright?

I carry a couple of rolled up trash bags (30-50 gallon size heavy duty) with me. They work in a pinch and take up very little space to carry, light too. I also carry 1/2 dozen zip-ties as well. Never know when to need to improvise and they also take little space.

Clever product. Wonder if they make one long enough to take a match rifle w/30" barrel AND the 6" sight extension tube mounted on the muzzle?

Something I used to use going to the drag races, a 55-59 gallon trash bag. Folded up it easily fits in your pocket. In a downpour you can pull it completely over yourself to your ankles when setting in the stands. Or tear holes for your head and arms to fit through and it still comes past your waist, and I'm 6'-3". Cheap and disposable.

I also carry those big heavy duty bags. Great for covering pack + rifle and slit down both sides make a great place to lay quarters to keep them clean.

Yes it's fit a scoped rifle, mine has a 16x Bushnell and my rifle has a 26" varmint barrel. It fits like a sock and one end has a zipper. I believe they offer custom socks.

I tried the trash bag program and while it worked somewhat, it was combersome. I don't have a wooden stock but getting a drenching rain in the action and trigger mechanism doesn't appeal to me.

I have an effective rain jacket but I always seem to leave it the truck, too much to carry as it is. I don't mind getting wet, it's only water but I don't want the rifle getting wet. What I like about the Rain-Buddy is that I can carry it in my pocket; it's like it's not there. In a flash I can have the rifle covered completely.
