Radios not like they use to be

KFRC was just about the only station we listened to "back in the day". My brother had a Craig floor mount 8 track FM in his Camaro that we would bring into the house at night. Hook it up to a battery charger and an old car antenna and we could pick up KZAP in Sacramento. I think there were only 2 or 3 FM stations back then. Good memories!

You had to bring up the floor mount 8 Track, What dinosaurs we are

Here is my favorite modern version of the transistor radio. AM/FM as well as weather bands. Programable stations with seek mode. Also has bells and whistles such as clock, alarm, and such. Speaker is of course, tiny, but adequate. FM sound with earphones is stereo, and -- bitchin.

At night, I pick up stations from 300 to 500 miles away, and almost every night fall asleep with the earphones in, programing my brain with Jesus, aliens, conspiracy theories, end-time scenarios, and more Jesus. This accounts for my incredibly gigantic intellect, grasp of diverse knowledge, and unshakeable Christian faith. :)

Go to a C. Crane link and you can find this little peach. jd

It was a sad day when the old KZAP shut down. Great station!

KZAP is now The Eagle, for some reason they think 80s and 90s music is classic rock... the only salvation is Get the led out Sunday nights at 9... just counting down the next 28 minutes

What brands do yinz remember ?? My old Sylvania is
still rockin' although years ago i replaced the speaker
from one I found at Radio Shack. Most were junked
long ago, but my brother still has an old wooden tomb
stone, Philco tube, 12 inch speaker. That Sylvania of
mine I believe was one of the first transister counter
models.....Sears had quite the line up. Just about every
Radio manufacturer made one for the Sears brand.
I think they used the "Silver Tone" name.

Back in the day we would listen to WWLS in Chicago in my 1954 Chevy while dragging main street on Saturday night. Then there was always KOMA, 50,000 watts of power.

I still have an old radio shack AM radio I assembled from a kit that I had purposely left the antenna loose in the coil so I could tune the dial and further tune a station by moving the antenna core inside the coil.. Still works after 4 decades

This reminds me.....If you lived along the Lakes, CKLW was
another popular channel. For the Underground album cut's
AM wouldn't play, WMDI was the best. Never played the same
song twice. After 11 PM I swear the DJ's were doing weed, LOL
Had an old 3 inch reel to reel I used to record WMDI. In later
years I transfered some of those to cassette. Still have a couple
tapes but the "drop outs" are pretty bad.

When I was young our car AM radios would pick up Wolfman and others after mid night when all the local channels went off air. This was from southern N.E. on clear nights.
Almost willing to bet they won't do that now.
If it is just around the house try the radio search on your P.C., should pick up all of the ones that stream.

I'm with you boys on this...I live on the shores of lake Michigan.
Back in the 50's, when parked there at night I was amazed at what I could pick up on my car radio with an outside antenna ! It was fascinating for sure. Many "country stations" as well. Has something to do with the air waves being crowded...I think. Yeah... the "good old days" . Aint no more "country anymore. Even Hank jr. quit singing...
