R E I now acting like dick's

CamelBak water bottles, Bell bicycle helmets, Giro ski goggles – what these products have in common is that they’re owned by Vista Outdoor, which includes gun and ammo makers among its brands as well as a strong National Rifle Association connection.

And that’s part of the reason REI, a nationwide outdoor retailer and consumer co-op, announced Thursday evening that it would, for the time being, no longer be ordering CamelBak, Bell, Giro or any other of the 50 Vista Outdoor brands to sell in its stores.

Been a member 40 years; won't make 41; credit card's going to get snipped as well.

Crunchy granola kind of store. No shock there.

Take the apostrophe out of your title. It would be much more fitting.

Considered that; don't know if it would have passed muster.

It was handy place for checking out stuff before buying. Lots of paddling accessories, etc. I spent some money there over the years; no more. The snowflakes working there are annoying as hell.

Truthfully, who gives a rats ass? rei caters to the crowd that make it halfway up a mountain, then needs support to bring their asses back down safe.
REI sure, no prob- jumars for the wanna be climbers... this is a stretch - banning Giro bike helmets to aid an Armalite ban? er...What?

Gun owners are responding to attacks and hoping for the best. If conservative gun owners could somehow unite and withhold spending, things would change quick. Tired of the media coverage? Let all of us call and cancel your cable/satellite TV. I have mentioned that to friends and they immediately respond with "I can't make it through the day by watching (fill in the blank).

In short, this country was built by men who sacrificed their lives for freedom. I will wager there aren't many willing to do that. So, write it down, the future won't bring good things. There is an old saying "not in my back yard".

They have gear for camping, hiking, cycling, running and a lot others outdoor activities ... I used to shop there. And, their return policy use to be awesome.
So did I in the early 80's, then the sierra club embraced them, turns out I'm light years ahead of the pack, lol

REI was once a CO-OP that was a non-profit organization where mountaineers could go to get equipment that was otherwise unavailable- stuff such as Lowa double boots, crampons, Edelrid rope and Primus stoves (the old all brass ones, not the new tin stuff), even Simond Super D Ice Axes, same model as Jim Whittaker carried to the top of Mt Everest. That was back in the 60's. A lot of water has gone over the dam in the last 50 years. Appears the REI board of directors doesn't adhere to the mission statement of those days, or it's similar to a lot of other businesses that perceive their future to lay in demographics other than those of us that were members in the 60s when member numbers were 5 digits.

True. I remember when Eddie Bauers sold real outdoor clothing and real expedition clothing(K2 line of goods). Now I see mostly imposter outdoor clothing and "hydration" bottles there. A few years ago Filson was purchased by Polo or Ralph Loren, they appear to be following in Bauers foot steps.

Companies and retail stores are suppose to be neutral when it comes to political issue.
They can explain at the end of the year why profits are down.
what they are doing serves no purpose other hen make a few people feel good about themselves.
We should boycott companies who do thing,s like this.
add to that there are plenty of small companies and small business that will pick up the slack.

REI has always been greenie friendly. I still have an account there that costs me nothing. Once every 5 years or so I drop in to kill time.. I used to buy some stuff from there when I was young enough to back pack and was into mountain climbing. Most of the stuff I bought was from IME a real outfitter..

My email inbox is constantly receiving junk ads from dicks and rei. I just unsubscribed from both. Dicks requested a reason. I filled out the response box noting their AR15 sales ban. Curious to see if I get any response. I'm not much of a buyer at either place but if enough gun owners react to this nonsense they may take notice.
