Quickload, Windows 10 & Microsoft Surface Pro

They claim there is no such thing as a stupid question, only stupid people, so let me show just how old and dumb I am...

We’re a Mac household (and I’m not particularly excited about running a Windows emulator). I am using Quickload on one of my son’s old gaming computers in the basement. Looking at picking-up a laptop so I can join the land of the living again.

Anyone have experience (good or bad) running Quickload on a Microsoft Surface Pro with Windows 10 Home? Would I be better off looking at a netbook or something cheaper?

Thanks in advance for the input.

I'm also curious of this. I would like to load it on a new laptop I'm considering buying that is Windows 10.

I've been running it on Windows 10 for 3 yrs, works great. There is slight glitch once you install it, need to end the program(ctr-alt-del) after installation, the reopen it.

I run QuickLoad on a Dell Precision M4800 laptop with Windows 10 Pro with no problems. Windows 10 Home is cheaper but it doesn't share data as easily as 10 Pro. You'll need a CD drive to load QuickLoad. I run an external, USB CD drive and the laptop's BIOS can't detect the drive on startup but Windows sees it and loaded the hardware without a hitch.

If your sons computer has Windows 7 on it and the Key Number sticker you can install that version on a used computer or lap top.

I have installed Linux Mint and Windows 7 on my laptop and desktop computers and dual booted, meaning select which operating system at startup. You can use the same Key Number on up to three home computers.

I'm typing this on a laptop that "had" Windows 8 on it, and I formatted it and installed Linux and Windows 7.

You do need to install it off CD first. hopefully, in the future, they could provide a download or USB option. Many new computers don't have cd drives and you will need to use an external. But once it's installed it works fine on windows 10.

From what I was told by the importer they will never be able to provide a version available for download or on a Flash Drive. The software is developed by a German citizen and I suspect that since the software is used for small arms ballistics there is some kind of restriction on how the software can be transported in to out of Germany.

Loaded QL on my Surface Pro w/Windows 10 this afternoon; had to buy a $25 CD Rom reader but other than that no issues.

Appreciate everyone’s feedback.

I originally tried mounting the CD to DropBox and launching from there. Did not work. Wound up having to buy a USB CD drive to load onto my son’s old computer, so I should be OK.

Sounds like I’m good to go with the Surface Pro. Thanks for the confirmation JackT.
