Quickload temperature estimation?

It is pretty well set to provide approximately 1 fps/ deg F

I would say that is likely only accurate for a few powders in specific loadings.

Short answer (guess this should have been at the top): No.

I have found that if I adjust the "Buring Rate Factor Ba" so that the FPS matches my Chronagraphed FPS then Quickload accounts for the tempture changes fairly well. I have been using Quickload to predict my charge weights based on tempture changes from my base line (temp I shoot my ladder test). You will also need to account for your fired case volume, barrel length, seating depth, case length etc..... I'm sure that once I change anything (by design or due to wear) then things will start to spirial out of controll.

Call Quickload to ask them.

I did to get info on pressures and velocities, the rep was very helpful.

He reminded me to not expect my loads based on their settings and data calculations as mine will be a little different. The barrels and component lots we use are different than what they used. Quickload results show trends and averages. Our stuff won't produce exactly the same results.

Thank you all for the answers. I was mostly wondering if I hammer out a great load at a specific temperature if is better to just run that load or adjust load based off of predicted speed changes with temperature in ql.

I am probably not following you. It sounds to me, that you believe there is a field in QL data input for the temperature you will shoot the load at. If this is what you expect, you will be disappointed because there isn't one. There are a number of areas that QL doesn't match what you are doing. Bullet jump or jam, primer used, etc. just don't reflect the detail of your load or shooting conditions. So like jump or jam, you can adjust the starting pressure. But from the default to what? The bubble help provides some input, but how close that actually is, can vary.

I can. Just click on that icon just left of the propellant window and type in the temperature. All the info will update, (FPS, chamber pressure, barrel time etc...). I have been using this feature to predict my muzzle velocity with a known powder charge for my 338.06. It usually is within a tenth of a grain.

I've tried the temperature function with Varget. Could not get a correlation. Tried with Reloader 16 also without success. Hope you do better that I!

I guess I just need to make a chart with each cartridge and powder. Then spend the time to see if accuracy correlates exactly with speed/temperature/powder.

Thank you for this. I didn't know about this either:cool:
