Quickload Help with the 22BR

As you some know, I am going to do a project with the 22BR and the 90 gr bullet. So what I need is some help running some data through Quickload to see what powder prob will be the best option. I believe I already feel that Varget is too fast a powder to consider. So what is left? RL15, 2000MR, H4350 or RL17 maybe? I have some time to figure all of this out yet, but as you well know, when in the planning stages, it is nice to get all of ducks in a row before time to start ordering stuff. And I don't want to order anything that wouldn't be useful.

So if you have quickload and would like to help out, it would be greatly appreciated!

Questions that may influence your powder choices:

1) What pressures to you plan to run? (Ramshot lists loads for 59 ksi max and for 63 ksi max)

2) Have you measured the water capacity of the cartridge? (grains of H2O to the top of the neck with a concave meniscus)

3) What range of COAL to you plan to explore?

4) What barrel length?

I would be more than happy to help but any info you have on the barrel length and case itself that I could compare and check would be appreciated. None the less I will run some for you tonight and PM you the info I get.

From playing around with it a bit so far I get Re-17 as the top choice. But keep in mind this is using the default settings and values as I don't have much to go off of from here. I use a 30 inch barrel with 30 grns 60900 psi I get 3056fps. It shows H4350 as being able to fit a bit more but the velocity would be lower. Re17 hits max presure before going to a compressed load as well. The 4350 must be compressed or seated longer than my OAL of 2.40 in order to get up to the same presures and velocity as 17. Also look at VV N550 if you can get it. It fill the case almost exactly at 100% and stays right at peak presure without being compressed. This is all from quickload just experimenting so don't do anything crazy with it until you can get a more accurate representation of what your finished project would be.

Me personally if I was having one made I would ask what powders have already had success in this application. But I am not a big fan of .224 except for carbine matches.

Ran at the default settings and 28" barrel length. Suggest powders came out as RL-17, H-380,and Ramshot Big Game. Used 90 Gr.Sierra HPBT Match King. With RL-17 start at or below 27.5 and work up to 28.7, with H-380 start at or below 26.7Gr's. and work up slowly to 27.8Gr's. and with Ramshot Big Game start at or below, 27.5Gr's and work up slowly to 28.6Gr's. As always watch for signs of pressure and use caution. If seating into the rifling, reduce these recommendations by 5%. As a mater of safety reduce by 5% because as I said these are default setting and pressures could change substantially depending on your actual case capacity, Oal, and barrel length. Having these specific measurements would help narrow the range of program error. Good Luck and be safe.

That alone is a good start and I do appreciate that much, it will be the Berger 90 and the bbl will be 30 inches with a 7.2 twist. As a measurement from the base of the case to the ogive with the bearing surface being seated above the donut area of the neck on the case, being that I don't have a case in hand or a way to seat a 90 into one at the moment. I kinda had a feeling that RL17 might have some promise, it has worked for me in the past in a couple of other rounds as well. I think that with that powder, neck tension is very important, in the past I found it was best with .001 neck tension on the bullet. It will be interesting to see what else can be found out once there is better data that we can come up with. This is becoming very interesting!
