Quickload help part II

The last time I asked for a little Quickload help I got FLAMED by JAMMERSIX for "PANHANDELING". I guess you gotta do what you gotta do!! I was just curious where my PD loads ended up pressure wise. I am hoping that I can make these 300 pieces of Lapua brass last forever!!
Chamber is a 22BR off of Lapua 6BR brass. OAL is 2.078, which is .010 off. Powder is 31.8 grains Hodgden Benchmark. Bullet is the Berger 52 grain Varment flat based. Primer is the CCI 450. It is running at 3851 FPS @ 70 degrees. I do not know the H20 capasity of the brass, but it is new, unfired Lapua 6BR brass. BBL is 30 inches.

Thanks, and flame on,

Tod

Buy a DAMN copy you friggin cheapskate!!!

:D:D:D:D

I feel better now...thanks Todd.

Seriously though, having the case water cap. will give you a better estimate. I won't have access to my QL until late this evening but someone will likely beat me to it. If not I can run it later.

Note: QuickLoad estimated the case capacity at 36 grains H2O. I decreased the capacity until the muzzle velocity matched yours.

Big thanks!! I am a little confused on the compressed load deal.....I am not even close to compressed. Looks like I will back down 1/2 grain. My accuracy node on with this combo was HUGE. 31.3, 31.6, and 31.9 all shot VERY SMALL in my initial test with 30.7 and 31.0 starting bigger and 32.2 and 32.5 also bigger at the end One big long node. Never saw ANY signs of PSI...other than the FPS when i chronoed them. That is why I asked for some quickload help. Lots of times with my BAT actions I show ZERO PSI even though the chrono says it is there. If they were comp loads I would shoot the 31.8 load.... brass life be damned. But, for high volume PD shooting I want them to last!!

Again, Thanks,
Tod

A little confusion. I backed off to 31.3 grains benchmark. That is the load that is listed on Accurate shooter @ 3600 FPS. I think they used the BIB 52 and they used the 205 Match primer where I used the Berger and the CCI-450. It was the bottom end of the node I found. I ran 5 more @ the same 31.3 through my M3 and ended up 3797, 3801, 3799, 3801, and 3797 for a 3799 FPS average and an ES of 4. The chart on accurate shooter does not show any PSI or CUP numbers....only that it is running 3600 FPS.

What would cause such a discrepancy in the velocitys? Could my M3 be FUBAR? More importantly, am I still on the high side for PSI @ 31.3 and 3799?

I know I am "safe" where I am at because I ran this all the way up to 32.5 with no PSI indicators, but am still curious.

Thanks again,
Tod

With 31.3 gr. and the default case capacity, QL gives 3793 fps and 66,500 psi. As always QL predictions are not the final word but in your case pretty danged close on velocity.

"Pressure signs" are not reliable. I have more faith in chronographs than pressure signs.

When I used to shoot compeditive 1KBR I used to do all of my load development through my CED M2 and the IR screans.....every shot. PITA to set up but worth it. Now I have a Magnetospeed 3 and I only use it AFTER I find a load.....I don't want that thing hanging on my tube when I am tuning a load. I have seen what 1/24th of a turn on a tuner can do to group size and shape.

Looks like a Lab Radar will solve ALL of my problems!! ;)

Big thanks.....66,000 psi is not exactly "mild"....Ill have to check my brass over after 1 or two firings and see how it holds up.

Thanks,
Tod
