QuickLoad - Data for new(er) powders?

Seems like one of the rubs with QL is that there are always a few powders I'm interested in, that aren't in the data files. This time around, Alliant 2000MR (and 3000, and 4000, etc.). These aren't exactly 'new' powders, but apparently new enough that there's nothing in QL for them.

Any suggestions from the QL gurus on how to get numbers to work with for powders like these, short of pestering the QL folks and hope that the next release might have the necessary data?

Monte,

Pester Alliant.

They won't provide the data to Hartmut. I sent Hartmut an email after using 2000 MR with heavy bullets in .223 (use VV N550 in QL). I bought 8 lbs. of 4000 MR for testing in 300 WM or 30-06, haven't found place to start a load without QL data. Sent more than one email to Alliant email link without ever receiving an answer. I'm unable to provide approximations for anything other than 2000.

They really cut their nose off to spite their face on these powders.

Interesting. I got a (very short) email back from Ed Dillon, saying that they can't get any of the thermodynamic info from Alliant. Given that I've only ever found one burn rate chart (from another manfacturer) that even lists the Power Pro powders... it's more than slightly frustrating. That one chart shows 2000MR being around the same speed as H414 or W760... but thats pretty slim data to go on.

I'll have to explore some options regarding Alliant...

I recently ran into the same issue with IMR4166, the fairly new Enduron powder. You'd think with as many reloaders using Quickload as there are, it would be in the manufacturer's best interest that their customers/users would have full access to the powder data.

I dunno... some of these companies get all secret-squirrel like when you want to know anything beyond "how much does it cost?" I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that the people doing the marketing may not have a clue that a tool like QuickLoad is available to consumers, and their lawyers would be horrified ;)

I'm pretty sure that almost any major competitor could easily buy some and figure out that info for themselves. It's the individual users that really aren't set up to generate that data for themselves. If they could, it would be easy enough to create a new powder file themselves in Quickload.

Could you explain how you'd go about doing it for a powder you have in hand, but no existing QL powder file for?

CFE223 is very, very similar to PP2000MR. Some places say it's the same. After testing both 80.5s and 90gr VLDs in .223 I would agree.
