Quick Question

I know this gas probably been covered a dozen times but what is the best way to prep a fiberglass stock for clear coat?
I have done laminates in the past but never a fiberglass, do I just scuff up with either 400 or 600 wet/dry paper or is there another step?
I will be using a rattle can automotive clear rather than buy half pint to run through spray gun.

Does your stock have a Gel-Coat finish?

Brand new McMillan Edge LV the finish is smooth but dull. I just like them to shine. It is a tri color equal parts red,white and blue.

With car wax or polishing compound first?

Polishing compound first to remove scratches/blemishes, followed by a good polish. You will achieve the best results by performing this under power. Unless you need the short lived extra bling that high dollar waxes provide on top of polish, forget about wax. I use Bow to Stern Gel Coat Fine Cut Polish to remove scratches prior to polishing.

Quick up date. Went to detailing supply shop today and got some liquid 1000 grit polishing compound made for gel coats.
3 hours later and then another hour applying Mothers California Gold paste wax I now have a nice shine on this stock.
