Quick load 450 Bushmaster info request

Can someone model a hypothetical load for me please? As stated: 450 bushmaster, Hornady 395 gn sub-x bullet (.452 dia, 1.12" length) COAL 2.200, Alliant Unique powder at 10-->11 grains. Just looking to see what the numbers are at around 1050 fps from a 16" barrel.

The factory load is 16.8 grains of Lil' gun but I do not have Lil' gun. I currently use the Unique to shoot subsonic with 405 gn cast bullets with stellar success so i'd like to continue that trend. I also think the 10 gn of Unique may be quieter through a suppressor than the Lil' gun. thanks!

QuickLoad doesn't have the Hornady 395gr Sub-X in its database, Dan. And I don't see a close analogue in that caliber.

I figured that much. Can something close be chosen then maybe alter the numbers to match the 1.12" length and 395 gn weight? Thanks

If you can get the dimensions of the boat tail and length, I will make a new bullet model in the GRtools and run sim

It is easy to add a bullet to QL. Unless you intend to use the ballistics in QuickTarget, diameter, weight and length are about the only things you need.

Long time QL user here. Out of curiosity I started using GRT some. I find it much better to define node loads and of course you can't beat the price - FREE.

Outstanding! Thank you all!

By the way, these bullets are not boat tailed. It is a flat bottom design. The digital (cartoon) Hornady rendering is not accurate. It has the same profile as any other XTP flat based pistol bullet. Just longer between the cannelure and base.

Would you mind plugging in 16.8 gn of Hodgdon lil gun with that same bullet profile for me? I’d like to compare muzzle blast pressures. Thanks!!,

Dan

That's not much of a case fill. I never took my 450b Lil Gun loads below 80%. Perhaps that's just superstition but I've tried to keep what I was born with, where it belongs.

Thanks guys! Appreciate the help!

Hoot, I’ve seen your handle over on the 450.net site. I’m assuming that is you? I’m not familiar with Lil’ Gun so I’ll heed your advice. On the other hand, I’ve found that Unique powder is not position sensitive at all so I don’t mind being near 50% with that. Think I’ll stick with the Unique. It’s also less muzzle pressure so it should be as close to a cat sneeze load as possible. Once the ATF gives me what’s mine I’ll be sure to let you know.

Yup that's me Dan.

Lil Gun is the perfect powder for the 450b across many bullet weights in supersonic pursuit. I don't do subsonic so I can't relate Lil Gun's performance in that capacity. IIRC, the members over on 450bushmaster.net who do subsonic, have been using charges of faster pistol powders. Like you, they have not had issues with light (by case fill) powder charges. There is always a demand for subsonic range reports over on the 450b site, so if time permits, please "feed the animals" there as well.
