I am definitely going to get Quick load but have to wait a little while but I would like to have some one with it to run the 250 sav. ackley imp with the 80 grain TTXS barnes It would be greatly appreciated, Ron

Is there a particular powder you want to use, or a specific velocity you would like to achieve? Also, what is your barrel length?

I am open to most any powder choices that would give good accuracy and velocity. I know that is pretty vague, I have quite a few powders to choose from Imr, Hogdon, norma. I have only loaded for the 243 win in the lighter bullets and had very good results with H414 just have to be careful be cause of temp can cause pressure to get high! My barrel length on this gun is 27" or 271/2" long I will probably cut it back to 24" at some time. If the formula is correct I would think this cartridge should get 3200fps as P.O. said this was the most improved of all the cartridges he worked with. Thank You for taking the time to help, Ron

From the criteria you supplied me with QL shows 37.2 Gr's of VV N-135, 3246fps, (46,186 psi) chamber pressure. 39.8Gr's of VV N-150, 3208 fps, (44,798 psi) chamber pressure. And 44.2 Gr's of RL-17, 3467 fps., (49,639 psi) chamber pressure. These numbers were arrived at using the QL defaults of 70" temp, .50 weighting factor, (52,997 psi Max. pressure) and a COAL of 2.515 with 80Gr Barnes TTSX and your given barrel length of 27". As always these are still estimations but should give you a good place to start. These three powders and their respective charge weights appear to give the best combination of filling up the case, good velocity and efficiency. Good luck and as always be safe.

Paul Box at Sierra swears by RE-15 in 250 Ackley nearly across the board. But another 250 AI shooter around here says RE-17 is even better. Your bullet choice may favor one over the other. Behind 87-gr TNT I have superb results with AA 2520, but I've got some RE-15 to try next.

What is the rate of twist in your barrel? Which IMR, Hodgdon and Norma powders do you have on hand?

VV N560 Hodgon, varget, 414-win760, H4350,4841sc,4831,Retumbo,H1000
RL15,171022,25
IMR 43504831,4895,4064,4198,4895
Norma MRP, N204
And I have access to all the Hogdon and IMR Powders
Barrel 1in10 twist 27 1/2" long, Thank you , Ron

I'm just glad people are keeping the 250AI alive. Such a polite chambering!
I started reading P.O. Ackleys books a very very long time ago and I thought all cartridges should be of this desighn and low and behold the 6mm accuracy rounds are a variation of this technology {steeper shoulder and a little less body taper}If they would have made all the bullets that the 6mm ans 6.5mm available they would have had a lot more of a following! Ron

The "revolutionary" 6.5 Creedmore is essentially a 6.5-250 AI. That's not a stretch, as the CM's parent 30 T/C was itself an improved 300 Savage. I can take a fired 6.5 CM case, run it into my Redding 250 AI full length die, load it, and shoot it.

Than You, that's very interesting! How would the Lapua brass perform with the small primer using the small primer and slow powders and ball primers where people use the magnum primers? The only brass that I know of is Hornday and lapua, Ron

I personally would not make 250 AI cases from Creedmoor! I only pointed out how similar the two are, and that it can be done. I don't much care for the cavernous extractor groove of the CM case.

Much better to use the true parent of the 250 AI, 250 Savage. But, lacking availability, the plentiful 22-250 (available in premium form) makes a superb 250 AI, either by necking up with a mandrel then leaving a false shoulder, or fire forming "bulletless" in the 250 AI chamber (how I do it).

First column = Powder name
Second column = Case fill % ( 107% is still not a compressed load)
Third column = Max charge weight in GRAINS (that either generates 52,500 psi or 108% case fill, which ever is reached first)
Fourth = Max charge weight in GRAMS
Fifth = Velocity in FPS
Sixth = 100% of powder burned
Seventh = Chamber pressure in PSI
Eighth = Muzzle pressure in PSI
Ninth = Barrel time in ms (milliseconds)

Fired 6.5 Creedmore case on the left, fired 250 AI case on right, after running both through a Redding 250 AI 40-deg full length die.

The CM neck needs to be trimmed, but it could be left longer than the Savage neck, depending on your chamber neck length. The CM shoulder will sharpen a bit when fired in the 250 AI. But QED I think on the similarity.

I've added a fired unsized 6.5 Creedmoor case on the left. Middle is 6.5 Creedmoor run through my 250 AI 40-deg FL die. Right is a 250 Savage AI run through the same die. Notice the 30-deg Creedmoor shoulder vs 40-deg AI. If my die was a 30-deg the only apparent effect of running CM through the die would be the 25-cal neck.
