Quick detach ring?

What would be the best choice for a quick detach ring to mount on a picatinny base. I am not sure about the repeatability of a detachable ring set-up.

Thanks-
Matt

Matt,

I have used the Leupold Quick Detach rings with the lever for many years and always had repeatability on my scope rail.

They are not inexpensive but you get what you pay for.

Sounds good fellas, I am really leaning on the leupold rings. However, I am torn between the leupold and the warne ones. The QRW tallest is a high ring, the warne has a ultra high ring. Would the high ring be tall enough for a good cheek weld, I am only using a 40mm Obj. scope.

I'm using medium height 30mm Leupold QRW rings on my Leupold side focus 30mm LR 8-24X50 and SIII 8-32X56 scopes, the SIII has just enough clearance to allow the use of Butler Creek flip-ups lens cover. I believe you'll find the high ring will give you excessive clearance with a 40mm objective. I've used Mark 4, IOR and Badger Ordnance tactical picatinny rings and to tell you the truth the only difference is price it hard to beat the QRW's. Just be sure that you slide both rings base pieces completely forward against the slot stops on your picatinny rail to better distribute the recoil as the Weaver lugs on these rings are narrower then most mil-spec tactical ring lugs. I've used them since they first came on the market and they've always returned to same point of impact and performed as well as rings that cast three times as much. Mount a set of QRW'S in a EGW 20moa one piece base and you've got a great mounting system for around a $100.

I use the Mark 4 rings, rail, and scope. Whenever I take the scope off for whatever reason it always comes right back to zero. It's not quick release I know, but it works for me. I know somebody from the range with the leupold quick release rings on his remmy 700, he has told me that taking the scope off will move point of impact up to 1 moa. I haven't verified that everything on his gun is good and tight.

Thanks again fellas, I decided on the QRWs. Ordered them just the other day, now I have to decide on what glass I am going to go with.

The Leupold QRW rings are a sintered materisl as are the Warnes.
I'd suggest the 3rd generation Leupy QRW's rings with the torx screw affixed recoil lug from the LH side compared to the through crossbolt.

I have the QRWs and the Warnes. They are both very good rings with excellent repeatability after removal. The Warnes are split longitudinally and present a little bit of a lapping challenge but not enough not to consider them.

Chino69, The high QRW'S are tall enough to mount a large 30mm 6-20X56mm GenIII Springfield Government model with the old style end objective and just have sufficient barrel clearance on a 700s/a wearing a 1.300 dia full bull using a EGW 20moa one piece picatinny base. I use the mediums QRW'S with my LR 8-32x50mm side focus Leupold and this provides about a 1/4' of gap with a 20moa BO base. I used high QRW's and a 20moa EGW base with my 8-32x56 SIII and ended up with about a 1/4' gap on a Savage Target action wearing a HV contoured barrel w/o the barrel nut. Hope you find this helpful.
