I just brought home my new Anschutz 1517 D HB and I have a few questions I acquired the gun for a great deal and It is NIB It came with a match two stage trigger And I was wondering what the real advantage is with this type of trigger It has a lot of play I wont call It creep because I think It It supposed to be there but when you take it up the trigger is quite light can they be adjusted even lighter and should I bed the gun or leave It alone The factory target Is great just looking to get the most out of It any suggestions would help thanks

The Anschutz two-stage match trigger is perhaps one of the finest ever offered to the shooting community. The take up in the first stage is there for a reason, and with practice it allows the shooter to have complete and safe fire control right up to the let-off of the second stage. The xx13 rifle is primarily a 3P gun, and that kind of trigger control is critical, especially in offhand shooting.
I would suggest that if you have this rifle, then you should have a certain level of proficiency in competitive shooting and that modifying this trigger should not be a first step. Practice, practice and more practice. Aside from moving the physical location of the trigger to fit your needs for precise trigger placement relative to your trigger finger, I would not recommend that you adjust either stage until you have several cartons of ammo down range.

I have the MPR model and believe that is the same trigger I have. I would leave it alone...shoots great out of the box. Just sold a pair of the guns that you have to a customer, and will have to wait for a range report.
I also found the CCI to be the best. The polymer tips bullets seem to feed the smoothest too. Hornady was a really close second on accuracy. Great guns though! I love mine. ;D

Glad I saw this thread. I have found an Anschutz mod 1517. Medium hvy barrel, nice checkered walnut stock, and a fine single-stage trigger. Quite a bit of money, ($700+) so would like to know more about it. Going to find Anschutz' website and see what's there, but prefer hearing from members that might know something about the rifle. There's only 1 mag.
Owner says it's a tackdriver, but I haven't asked with what ammo.
No box, no target.

Thanks HP. I went back over today and looked at it closely. The barrel is marked Anschutz Modell 1517. No letters. I found a picture on Anschutz's website of a rifle that looks and measures exactly the same as the one I'm looking at. It's a 1517 D HB Classic. Based on what I've found and on your reply, I'm going to get it. I liked the look of it before I knew anything about it. The price is firm, which will make it the most expensive rimfire I own. Hope it shoots as good as it looks. Got to get some ammo somewhere, but now I know to look for Hornady or CCI 17gr v-max.

Eddywitay, I tried 5 different types of ammo. The best turned out to be Federal Premium with the 17gr V-max. Just under 1 moa at 100 yds. The CCI and Hornady 17gr V-max ammo both shot about 1.5 moa.
My rifle shoots better out of a cold clean barrel. Works for me, I normally do a wet patch cleaning after a 5 rd string anyway.
Had a lot of small neck and shoulder splits. All 5 types I shot had them. Since the case heads were flat, headspace is good, but I theorize that the chamber itself must be too long. Can't be good for accuracy.

Well I am happy to hear someone is having success with their Anschutz 1517, mine has been back to Anschutz North America 8 times if you include the up coming trip back to them,. I had a major issue with Possom hollow bore guide leaking solvent back into the rifle and no one could figure out why,. I sent it back and spent $1200 on a barreled action a bore guide and return shipping. the first time out noticed hard to chamber and extraction problems, then when cleaning with the bore guide and jag the jag would hit the edge of the chamber, plus lucky to get a 1 inch group a thirty two yards pretty sad and I know I am going to catch hell but want people to know Anschutz are not perfect!!!!

I believe Anschutz uses RWS R50 match ammo testing their barrels for accuracy. That and Eley Tenex are popular with match winners.
Good barrels in accurate rifles will test either into about 1/3rd MOA at 50 yards, about 2/3rds MOA at 100. Using the ammo lot shooting best in the rifle. Barrels last about 30,000 rounds of best accuracy. Some dealers will sell you a box of ammo from each of several lots. Test each box of 50 rounds with five 10-shot or two 25-shot groups then order several thousand rounds of the best lot.
Judge lot accuracy by the largest 10/25-shot group fired. That shows what happens when all the variables add up. Smallest groups happen when the variables cancel each other out

Not what you were asking, but here is the test target on the box end for my 1717D HB. Shoot about like this with Hornady 17 gr VMAX.No foto?

Just to be clear, in a thread about Anschutz 17 hmrs (1517 and 1717) there is no point to bring up match grade 22lr ammo. Because there is no match grade 17hmr.
The 17hmr ammo out there ranges from very good to awful. I’ve had very good to decent results with the TNT types, ok to good with the CCI made (includes Hornady) polymer tipped style, and awful results with the lead free and Winchester varieties.
So test them all and don’t skip the TNT if accuracy is your goal.
