Anschutz 1517 Break in & Ammo testing...

First shoot, I am sure it will get better!

Wind for 5 to 10. Overcast.

Anschutz 1517 D classic 64 action 17 hmr
5098 two stage trigger

Sightron SIII SS 6-24x50 LR MOA 25127

10 shot groups at 100 yards.

I wish the ammo quality was consistent in this caliber. You'll get one lot that shoots great and the next shoots for crap. From shooting this caliber for almost ten years I can say the ammo quality just isn't there anymore. That Annie should shoot 1/3 or less the size of those groups when you get a good batch of ammo. For a data point, having tried every iteration of ammo, my two Annies shoot the best with the Hornady 17gr Vmax.

I have wind flags all over the entire range!
You can see them in the first picture if you look really close.

No!!! He means wind flags!!

I hear you, but some of the guys here really know the finer points of shooting really small groups. That 200 yard target looks pretty good for a rim fire factory ammo test but wouldn't it be nice to know if it was conditions or ammo that kept you from getting better grouping? I recently got an Anchutz 22. Shot some cheap stuff then went and bought $200 worth of the various "good stuff" I shoot on a very protected range. Tall berms with trees on top but we still get wind. I'm waiting for the perfect day to test my gun. I can shoot my 308 reloads and save money compared to some of the 22 target stuff I got.

My CZ 452 sporter shot some 3/4" 5-shot groups last week in some challenging conditions and only a piece of surveyor tape hanging from a tree for a wing flag. It was an older lot of ammo. The 17 grain V-max stuff is the best shooting stuff made.

Never shot a 17 but watched one being shot at prairie dogs. Really seemed wind sensitive. I am sure a 22 could beat this particular setup with the ammo quality.
