Thanx Grimstod, but there you go throwing me of my choice again. First I was set for 7-08, now the creed. This barrel is going on a trued 700 action. There are so many 6.5s out there. I'd like to get out to 1000 someday. How about a short list of 6.5s in short action. Thanx again. MikeLapua does not make brass for the 6.5Creedmoor. They do however make a cartradge called the 6.5x47 that has identical performance and is much more accurate. Not to mention it's cheaper to reload for.
Oh my brain hurts. If 6.5x47 and you were having a barrel made would you have anything done to the camber. ie a longer throat. Long bullets and 1000 yardsI'll double the 6.5x47L. Almost the same as creedmoor but with less powder. Also very fine lapua brass with small primers. What more could you ask for! Oh, and not a barrel burner.
Holy fire balls. I got a good laugh out of that one. I've never fire formed but I can picture a funny YouTube video out of that one. Thing is it seems to me stretching the neck that much would make it thin. Why not just buy the brass. I'm ignorant. Is that a stupid question?I'm using 22-250 Lapua brass in my 6.5 Creedmoor .just expanding the neck , add the powder of your choice , seat a 140 match king "jammed" in the lands & fire form while you're doing your break in & scope adjustment . I have a load if you need it .... fire forming & my final load w/ 140 Berger hunting.
BTW I tried the pistol powder, cream of wheat & cotton ball method of fire forming 1st...Holy fire balls ! It worked but the barrel still got hot & I had a flaming cotton / cream of wheat snow storm . I'd rather just go ahead & shoot a real bullet.
Now we're talking especially as my barrel will be 24". Really thanx for the reamer info. And as this will be my first ever custom barrel Im not into fire forming. For sure not going to jam anything in it and the burning of cotton/wheat could cause an oxidation of the metallurgy due to molecular breakdown of the atomic structureI've been shooting a 6.5 creedmoor for a couple years now. As much as I like the 6.5x47, shooting them in a shorter barrel (less than 28") and 140gr bullets, the velocities are actually noticeably less than the 6.5 creedmoor.
Accuracy wise, I think they are the same. My 6.5 creedmoor shoots really well.
Just go with the standard 6.5 creedmoor reamer. This shoots the 140 hybrids and A-Max's well. I think the "standard" reamer was set up for the A-Max by the way.
A lot of people poopoo on the Hornady brass, but I have had zero, nada, zilch, issues with it and it is MUCH cheaper than Nosler brass.
