question to you all that are in the know about 6mmAR Turbo Improved?

Here is my question: Do you all think that after a few years that maybe someone else might offer a 6mmAR Turbo ImP. barrel , and just the barrel alone?
I am not trying to dis credit those guys at the 6mmAR Turbo Impoved web sight, if I have the cash I think I would just order one and be done. But, I am the kind of guy that has to peice his guns toghter do to when the funds come in!
I am sure that those guys build the best there is. And maybe I will win the lottery, and then the sky is the limit!
I would be great full to hear from any one on the goes and no goes about parting a 6mmAR Turbo Improved.
Thanks for your time you took to read this.
Greg

If you interested in a 6mm cartridge for the AR15 platform, Google White Oak Precision. They offer a 6mm cartridge using a necked up 6.8 SPC case. Probably pretty close to 6mmTurbo performance and they will sell you just the barrel.

White Oak does a 6 WOA (based on the 6.8 ) and does a 6Rat (similar to the turbo 40). http://www.whiteoakarmament.com/6RAT/6RAT_General%20info.pdf
Call him up and order a barrel or upper. That is what I did and it is a shooter.

Thanks guys!! If it ever cools down, I plan on getting ny 243WSSM AR grouping like I want, and then I want a new toy to play with,
Thanks again!

6mm cartridges for an AR have been kicked around for several years. First efforts - mostly using PPC cases - had teething issues stemming from the case geometry, existing barrel extensions and magazines unsuitable for anything but .223-style brass.

That's changed. With the advent of the .25 / .30 Rem / 6.8 SPC variants (6WOA, 6HAGAR, others) and those based on the 6.5 Grendel case (6mmAR, 6mmAR Turbo 40° Improved, 6RAT, etc.) there's quite a selection to educate yourself about before making a choice.

You can also move into case sizes having an even larger head diameter of the .308 family, notably the 6BR but understand the AR engineering is stretched the larger the case being used.

Just last week I did some case volume measurements on three of the 6mm's I happen to have fired brass for:

SSA 6.8SPC fired as 6WOA: 117.70 grains empty, 153.36 grains filled to neck mouth 35.66 grains H2O
6.5 Grendel fired as 6RAT: 113.82 grains empty, 150.62 grains filled to neck mouth 36.80 grains H2O
R/P .30 REM fired as 6HAGAR: 124.74 grains empty, 163.50 grains filled to neck mouth 38.76 grains H2O

My first 6mm AR was the 6HAGAR John Holliger built for me back in 2007. Excellent performance out to 600 yards but brass was and continues to be the big limitation owing to the low availability of parent brass. There may be news about a new source soon but I'm not holding my breath.

Last year I had John rebarrel a 6.5 Grendel AA match upper to 6RAT. Performance this year seems to indicate it's every bit as capable a cartridge as the 6HAGAR. 6.5 Grendel brass is available from two or three sources at a reasonable price. Some users have spoken of issues they've encountered with pressure signs and feed in rapid-fire. Big advantage with a .440" case head is more brass around the primer pocket compared to the .416" 6.8SPC / 25 or 30 REM cases, particularly with a large rifle primer pocket.

None should be pushed to performance equal to that of a competitive 6BR bolt gun; neither the brass available nor the AR's engineering were intended to safely handle those kinds of loads.

That's not to say these 6mm rounds wouldn't work well in a bolt gun, they're just more challenging than more capacious popular cartridges....

I shot a 28" bbl'd 6HAGAR in XC HP matches for a couple of seasons, and loved everything about it except - as Stephan mentioned - brass availability. I made over 1200pcs. for the HAGAR, including 200 using Jamison 25Rem cases for my 600yd. loads. Hours upon hours were spent working on the stuff, and while it worked & shot great, it was short-lived. I finally sold a new 2nd complete upper I'd had built, custom dies (expensive$$$), and the bulk of the remaining brass, then retired the original upper.

Moved on to a 6RAT from WOP, and have been very impressed with it. Never have had any function/reliability issues with either cartridge (always thought the HAGAR's proportions being nearly identical to the 223's was a factor in its favor, but the RAT's shape is much different, and still works great). The RAT has a couple of big advantages over the HAGAR - 1. Parent case is made by Lapua, has a small primer pocket, and is readily available. 2. 105-108gr bullets can be seated to mag length for 300yd stages.

I'd be interested in finding out there's a new source of HAGAR brass, but if that doesn't come to fruition, I'l probably set the bbl. of the old HAGAR upper back & re-chamber it for the 6RAT.
