Question to the hardcore prairie dog hunters.

Question: How is the dog hunting in September. I have some spots lined up that have not been hunted yet this year by anyone and are full of dogs. Are the dogs "out and about" on a hot and sunny September Day like they are in May, June, and July?

Thanks,
Tod

I think they would out and about.

I shoot them all the year round even in Dec.
Sept. they are out like any other month as its still warm.

I have shot them in December and Jan in NE Wyoming...BRRRRRR, but if the sun was out, there was shooting to be done:D

You'll be in for a treat if they haven't been shot at all year. If you're able to take them suppressed you'll REALLY have fun! All it takes is a little sunshine:) Eric in DL

I used to Antelope hunt in Wyoming in September, and shot prairie dogs for the couple days while our antelope were being processed, so they are definitely out in September.

Gave up on antelope, now just shoot prairie dogs.

They are big and FAT in Sept, not skinny like in June. Watch your weather! If the Jet Stream dips, you could get a Canadian cold blast that will shock you!

Told ya Tod...............................;)

But I have no idea what the heck you are talkinig about, THERE ARE NO PD's LEFT IN NORDAKOTA. They all migrated west and south about 7 yrs ago when the patch boomed again.. They are extremely sensitive creatures unable to reproduce successfully with all that noise and traffic.. I was hitting on the road south of Bowman in 2009 and I recognized the colony from being much farther North.

They will be out. I've seen them out in Dec, Jan if sun is out and nice day,( not too windy).

How about Texas, Lubbock area in early October? I heard after it warms up.
Many years ago , I hunted Pdogs near Lubbock . The Guide was Larry Pate who owned a Gun Shop in Idalou , Texas . I could'nt find accommodations in Lubbock , but found a nice town just North called Plainview . It was in September . Texas folks think of weather a lot different than us Yankees. It was about 75 or 80 Degrees when I arrived in Plainview , so I went out to the Pool . There was no one in sight . After getting a little Sun , I went back in the Motel and asked the desk-gal where everyone was . She said : " it's way to cold to go swimming " ! Anyway the shooting was pretty good . I did'nt keep exact records , but I think I averaged about 175 shots per day . Larry was a hoot of a Guide and ran an outfit called Texas Prairie Dog Safaris and he had Hunting Leases on a lot of Ranch Land . I could'nt walk any distance at all in those days , but everything worked out fine . I could'nt believe how many Pheasants I saw running around . I made the best shots ever in hitting 2 Pdogs with 2 shots at about 635 Yards ...... which Larry paced off . I also got 1 across a Dry Lake at over 900 Yards , but I won't say how many shots that took . I met a lot of nice Texas Ranchers and have great memories as I think I've seen my last Trip out West .

I can speak for Lubbock Praire Dogs! They are more than active into October. I've seen more this year than ever before! And I agree. 75 degrees is way too cold to swim

Christmas day in Colorado, any questions?? don't shoot them all!
