question on neck turning brass

Is it necessary to outside neck turn premium rifle brass such as Lapua for a factory chambered rifle? Is there anything to be gained or lost by doin so? I do know neck turning for custom chambers do make a difference but not sure about factory chambers.

Neck turning for custom chambers is necessary for em to even fit. A skim cut makes everything the same but you may need a bushing die to get the correct fit. Once you skim cut even the finest brass youll see why its a necessary step in consistency

First define what you want to do with the rifle. Is it a hunting rifle, bench rest, competition rifle or just your everyday pinker. What distance do you do most of your shooting at? If it's a hunting rifle or pinker and your shooting under 4-600 yds than I doubt neck turning is going to affect accuracy to any great degree. Yeah it may help some but is that .001" really going to make a difference? Lapua is really good brass. I'd shoot 'em just the way they are.

If its for hunting and you have a factory chamber I would not waist my time on it. I have to neck turn my Lapua brass only because I have a custom 243 chamber that it tight neck and the reamer that was used was made to Lapua brass specs from PT&G. So I am forced to neck turn my brass. And I only use my rifle for long range hunting. I hope that helps.

The way i see it, you are added more "slop" to an already "sloppy" system at your extra time and expense with a negative gain (more slop).

Thanks a lot gentlemen.I use the gun for hunting and range shooting up to 300 meters so I was just curious if neck turning would make a difference.I now have my answer so I'm not going to waste any time neck turning.
