Question on mirage

It is an informative bunch on here so here is the question .How fast does the wind have to go to dissipate mirage ? Because if I do not have a flag out at that distance it would be nice to know .Thanks in advance

A lot, if just depends on how thick the mirage is. The wind can push the mirage flat to the ground if you have around a 10 MPH or so wind perpendicular to your line of sight. The further it is from perpendicular, the stronger the wind needs to be to make it appear flat to the ground. As the wind gets stronger, the mirage will thin out.

"Boil" is just mirage that is going more or less straight up. A bad time to shoot as the target image gets displaced upward and tends to flicker back and forth quite a bit.

Gene Beggs has a nice little intro to mirage here.

Thanks for the reply, and the link, i figure this will come in handy @ the F-Class matches i plan on attending this EXTREMELY HOT summer, lol.

This is why I posted the question because at one of the BR shoots I got burned by mirage .The person beside me asked if I saw the mirage change direction,of course not .I was having a hard enough time just shooting when the flags were not go all different directions .
