Question on having a 20 moa mount and 20 moa z rings

I have a Ruger M77 Hawkeye 28 inch barrel 6.5 creedmoor. I have a 20 moa scope mount on it already. Shoots good. My scope does not have much travel and I want to ad 20 moa Burris Z rings on it. So total of 40 moa added on. Question is that to much to keep a zero of 100 yards. I hate to spend the $ 70.00 and find out I cannot keep gun sighted in at 100 yards.
Your thoughts. Thanks. Marty

With your current rings, sight in your rifle at 100 yards and then try to adjust your scope down 20 MOA from there. If you cannot, then you will not be able to adjust down to a 100 yard zero with 20 MOA in the rings. Do you really need 40 total, or would less in the rings work?

My scope apears to have total of 30
Moa total. It would be nice if I could ad 20 more moa by adding the Burris zing rings to what I have. I will try to see if currntely my scope will move cross hairs down 20 moa. I guess that’s how I would know per instructions above. Thanks. Marty

With the Z rings you can put 5 MOA, 10 MOA, or 20 MOA into the rings. Also the distance between the rings will make a difference on how much they change things. The closer the rings are together (with and insert other than zero) the more they will change

Your comment disturbs me. Please understand that using Z Rings or a canted mount does not "add 20 more MOAs." What these things do in fact, is to shift the MOA distribution. So if your scope has a total of 30 MOAs of adjustments, that represents 15 MOA down and 15 MOA up. By using a 20MOA cant (rail or Z rings,) You change that to -5 MOA down (or 5 MOA up) and 35 MOA up.

The Burris website has a sheet you should download that has the distances between the rings listed and their effect on the slope and MOA adjustment. There is only one distance at which the specified inserts will represent that value in MOA adjustment.

Good luck.

Because some people shoot far and the scope he is using will not allow it, even with a tapered base. Matt
How 'bout an example?

I'm not aware of any shouldered rifle whose trajectory at maximum horizontal range couldn't be compensated for even if it meant a 42 degree tapered base to hit targets 2 to 3 miles away.

They also want 100 yard zero. He can't have both with that scope. 50 MOA is not enough travel with that cartridge at that speed. With his cartridge he needs almost 30 to get to 1000. Matt

Well then, one needs to figure out the compromise needed.
