Question on 6.5 creedmoor

I have a 6.5 creedmoor but the closest I can get to the riflings is 70,000 with 143 gr. eldx bullets because I can only get 2.825 in the magazine. Would these bullets shoot better if they were closer to the riflings?

I cant even get close to the lands in my rifle
Due to magazine restrictions.
So yes they'll shoot.
I've got solid loads with 143eldx, 140 vld's, and playing with 130 hybrids &Rl16.
Keep in mind different bullets require checking jam length agian.
Wifes 260 143 eldx to mag length wont touch lands @ 2.83" oal, now a 120 eldm is at touch @ 2.79.

Mine will shoot 1/2" groups at 100 yrds. But I have a long action I'm going to build into a 6.5 creedmoor so I for sure can seat the bullets close to the rifling as I think the 143 gr. eldx would shoot better

What mags are you using if it’s AI mags switch to a accurate mag without the binder plate

I’ve seen plenty of barrels/chambers where up to .060” off the lands the bullets shot better then being closer to the lands or touching or even jamming.

Yes usually closer is better but not always.

I’ve had box ammo .338 LM where the 300gr bullet where jumping a .100” and the gun would shoot 5/8 to 3/4” groups. Sometimes smaller but really never bigger. Again box ammo not handloads. For box ammo it was nothing to complain about.

once again thanks Frank, I know the short range benchrest boys get their panties in a knot when you discuss coming off the lands more than 20 thou,

what they do not seem to understand is the long range game is different,

that is why you must get current info from the guys actually shooting that particular game and are winning or have something valid to contribute,

and yes I have won plaques at the SRBR USA nationals and plenty of top ten finishes in the aggs

Your welcome Jefferson!

Here is another good/recent example which I should’ve listed. Last summer while shooting my new F open rifle in .300PRC. I accidentally adjusted the seating die down to much. Ended up seating a small batch of 225’s .050” off the lands. I didn’t feel like pulling the bullets/ammo. I was still testing and checking zeros at different ranges so I wasn’t to concerned about it.

At .050” off the lands it was holding right around a .4xx” for group sizes.

Does your shooting style require the magazine? If not you could always get a single shot sled and single feed it then length wont be an issue.

My Savage 6.5 is eroded almost .150 now with 2800 rounds . I have not chased the lands or rifling in a long time. I checked it and I'm about .080 off the lands now. It still shooting almost 1/2 MOA, I shoot it every week, waiting for something bad to happen in the accuracy department, hasn't yet. HB

I guess the main question that has not been answered is will the 6.5 creedmoor shoot better closer to the riflings lands using the 143 gr. eldx bullets?

Frank, you must have been reading my mind.

The internet cannot answer unanswerable questions.

As a 1000 yd ibs shooter , my lite gun is 6.5 creedmoore and with 140 vld i load h4350 and seat .020 off lands. I can shoot sub 5" groups at 1000 if i read wind correctly .
If this helps.
