Question: magazine and hardware

Two years ago I built a 6.5x284 on a 700 LA. Currently I have the bdl hinged floor plate. I would like to convert it to a detachable mag.

I assume I will need new bottom metal built for a detachable mag. What size mag do I need for the 6.5x284? Is it considered a magnum cartridge or is there a difference? Sorry for my ignorance! I have 3 cabinets of rifles and not a single high powered rifle with a detachable mag. I want to order correctly and all I need to do it right the first time. Thanks in advance.

Standard long action for that cartridge. There are many conversions available, Factory Remington, AICS, Wyatts, H.S. Precision, and Hawkins Precision, among others.

If you go to Pacific Tool and Gauge website they have a bottom metal section for Rem700. I used one of their stealth bottom metals with the 3.715” Accurate 30-06 magazines for a 6.5x55 Ack. project. It will work perfectly for your 6.5-.284

Would I be correct to assume that the 3.715” you referenced above would the max cartridge length the mag will hold?

So I just measured it. Longest you could seat a bullet is 3.625”

The 3.715” is the outside of the magazine.
