Question for the 1000 yard guys

More curious than anything...

I was playing around with one of those ballistics programs you can find on-line, punching in numbers for my 22-250 and was absolutely floored when it spat out a bullet drop for 1000 yards of -417" That's over 34 FEET!!

Does that seem in the ballpark for a 64gr bullet?

That is probably total bullet drop from muzzle to 1000 yards. And yes, it's true. Run the program with a 1000 yard zero and the figures for mid-range trajectory won't be quite as startling.

That's why you don't find many competitors shooting a 22-250 with 64 grain bullets in 1000 yard tournaments.

But, that is not the number you should be concerned with. You can compensate for that with a tapered scope base. Look at the wind deflection with a gentle 10 mph cross wind. Now, THAT should really scare you.

When I got my rig ready for Perry this year I had to use a 100 yard range for a "close enough guess" zero for 1000 yards.
I was shooting a 210 gr. Berger VLD at 2700 fps, and had to zero 37 inches high at 100 for a 1000 yard zero
My mid range at 500 was something in the neighborhood of 300 plus inches, I thought that I would need a goose permit to shoot.
