Question for Sellers

So I have a guy who said he would take an Item on 7-27-11 and to email him payment info. The person just registered on 7-26-11. He does not have email in his profile so I sent pm's and he has not been back on the forum since 7-27-11 and has not had anymore contact with me.

I have someone else that wants the item also.

Question is, how long should I wait on the first guy?

Thanks!

I would wait and see if he is active on the forum, if he is, PM him again!! I would give him a couple days after you can ascertain that he has been active and you have done your best to contact him. Advise him you are reposting if no response. Cant be too serious, but then shite comes up...

Lotta folk on vacate this time of yr too..

Rod

Ist if he doesnot post an email address, thats strike one.
2nd Any board PM is not always reliable communication
3rd, The time lapse, if he was a serious buyer, he would have been in touch

Some people are so inconsiderate that they think, once they express interest in your item that you are obligated to play their waiting game. They sometimes will string you along and then welch on the deal. I have a long list of names that have done that to me. I dont give them a second opportunity, if their name rings a bell w/me. Larry in western Ky.

I will wait a few more days, and then move on to the next guy. A week and no response is plenty long in my book!

i'm with that Larry said... [after the waiting game they'll offer you less $]

but the i'll take it guy mayhave gone away for the weekend Monday nite is enough more then enough time...

jm2cts.

I'd give him just a little more time, advise him that you want an e-mail address & phone number, & if does not respond, real quick, you are moving on. I'd also contact the second offer & tell them you will contact them if #1 fails to act.

I can't answer as a seller as I am only interested in buying, someday I may have a HUGE sale, anyway once I say I'll take it I am not happy until we have communicated via P.M, email, or phone, then and only then am I satisfied the deal is going to go through. I have had sellers list something, I say I'll take it followed by a p.m or email and several days later get a reply, very frustrating on my end but most of the time they were out of town for the weekend with family or whatever. I agree with 25AI260, I would give him until you eat supper Monday evening then re-list it, and wouldn't even consider selling to him if he returns,...just my $.02 worth.

I'd be inclined to go with a "known" over an "unknown" pretty much after 24 hours with no reply.

If you're willing to extend benefit of doubt for a weekend or other contingencies, maybe 48 - 72 hours?

Were I in your position my decision would depend on how much $$ was involved and what kind of demand there is for what I'd offered for sale.

How is this possible, I thought like Dave, I thought everybody had a email address on here, but your right DJ111 he does not and there are several others that don't, I did some checking.
For the kind of money your talking about and only two posts and both were to you I wouldn't give it a second thought,...sell it to the next in line and don't loose any sleep over it.
Wayne.

And if he (the buyer) didn't resopnd with an email or PM after he said "I'll take it", cross him off your list. No love lost.
And make damn sure you don't loose any sleep over it. ;)

No he never made any contact with me after he said he would take it. Most people always say something or send a pm or email when they want something to confirm it! Just want to be fair!

Recieved a check in the mail today! Glad I waited but it would have been nice for some contact through the transaction!

Funny how "good communications" can make things go so much easier. ;) Loose ends and not enough contact can sure screw up a smooth deal. ::) Glad it came out good for you. 8)
At least this time the check "was" in the mail. ;D

Good news!!!! Now Run don't walk to the bank ;) Seriously I am glad it has worked out, I would hate to see anyone get ripped off. You might let him know for future deals communication would be a +

Everybody is required to have a valid email to register here.

However...

A user can elect to block email via his/her forum settings. Same as on Benchrest Central. We do require that sellers make email available, but a buyer could have his/her email turned off.

+1 He gets one day in my book.

Funny how this came up now. I've got a situation where I posted something for sale yesterday. One guy jumped in and says "I'll take it". Still waiting for a reply. ::) Just after his "I'll take it", 2 other folks jump in wanting the item.
As of right how, I'am in a holding pattern till I hear back from #1. (but not for very much longer >:()
I informed the other guys that there was a "hold up" and to hang in there till I get this sorted out.
As of right now, I've got my pen in hand and about to cross #1 off the list and move on to #2 and maybe #3. And I'll make it a point "not" to loose any sleep over it.
If you can't be bothered to communicate, I can't be bothered to worry about it. And the worst part about it is we're only talking about $30.00. ::) A little common courtesy goes a long way. ;)
My thinking is that some folks see something they want so they post "I'll take it" to tie it up so nobody else can get it?
Homey don't play that game. Either $hit or get off the pot!

Homey,
Your a funny man ;) But totally agree with you.
Wayne.

Wayne: You're on the short list of one of the "good guys". The type you never have to worry about. 8)
And as far as me being funny? You better enjoy life now because tomorrow may never come. Laugh every time you get a chance. Sometimes life takes the fun out of things so enjoy every minute of it. And besides, if you keep a grin on your face, folks will think you're up to something. Keep them guessing! ;)
Kinda hard to walk when you keep stepping on your lower lip. :(
