* Contact the seller by 'phone before sending any money, especially if there is a "substantial" amount involved. "Substantial" means you cannot afford to lose it. I've often found that you can judge a person by how they talk on the phone. Do they seem open and inviting to questions or cagey and unresponsive?

All excellent points but I find this one to be really important. An honest person will come through loud and clear but you have to know enough to ask the right questions. If the seller is evasive or vague, find another to deal with.
