When dialing in the throat, do you relieve the bore behind the throat ?

Not sure why you would want to relieve the bore. When dialing in the throat I use the top of the lands with a long stem indicator. I use a gage pin in the muzzle. Just easier. I have pins .0005" under nominal bore diameter. I hope that doesn't make heads explode.
