Question for Illinois members.

I'm planning a trip to Springfield over the 4th and I usually like to visit scheels outfitter while there. I normally don't purchase any reloading supplies but they always have a good selection. So the question is what can/can't I buy without an foid card? Obviously guns and probably ammo is a no no. Thanks

you can purchase brass, hulls, cleaning supplies and bullets, but not primers and powder without FOID. I am going to double check this afternoon with local shop as they are new and up to date on this.

Ive never been asked for a foid buying powder or primers in over 20 years of living in IL all over the state

When I lived there in 1988 you needed a FOID Card for guns, factory ammo, powder and primers, at least where I shopped in and around Salem/Mount Vernon.

I live in Missouri, and have purchased ammo, powder, and even rifles in Illinois.
But I was denied some .22 ammo once at a store,,,,, not all vendors know the law.

I live about 60 miles southwest of shitcago and all the local stores ask for a foid when buying powder or primers. You might get lucky and get a clerk thats new and they wont ask but there suppose to.

I spoke with the local supply store, guy I'm dealing with, I have worked with & enjoyed multiple hobbies outside of work so I trust him. His shop is new, and they have found what is and isn't acceptable; sometimes the hard way with a friendly reminder from Gov't. He stated they do not ask for FOID for powder and primer purchase but an I.D.. To date we could not find anything stating a purchaser must have a FOID. He believes it has to do with the store, so chain stores like BassPro and Cabelas may require a FOID. I am hoping he will get a straight answer, but believes its just left in the legal mubo jumbo and powder and primers may fall under a different legal purchasing status, such as explosive's.

It's been a few years but do remember my last purchase of black powder I had to submit my FOID and believe I may have even had to wait a couple days?? So even BP may fall under different laws.

Sorry I couldn't help. Seems this may be one of those that doesn't get decided until its too late.
