What should it measure? That way I’ll know what to look for when I pull mine apart. If you've got one of these, you gotta check it man!
I trust shouldered barrels all the time without knowing the protrusion numbers. As long as my gauges chamber properly why would I treat a pre-fit differently?Trusting in good work is a fine thing, 60k 1" from your face requires some investigation on behalf of your face!
Your shouldered barrel was measured and fit to your action, but you have to have a little trust there. Id want trust and a look at the measurements! Your prefit was made big enough to fit nearly every/any action. What should it measure? That way I’ll know what to look for when I pull mine apart.

As far as what it should measure, within 0.010 of your bolt face depth. I ask because Im curious how much extra clearance the prefits seem to have.
Brass tells the story, simple as that. Why do you need more ? If you don't trust in them why so curious ?Your shouldered barrel was measured and fit to your action, but you have to have a little trust there. Id want trust and a look at the measurements! I just got dies for my 22br remage. There is .165" of case head exposed. Is this good or bad? I need a go gauge, this one has me nervous.
I have a CBI 223 remage, didn't check anything, works great.
Or its actually just a question of curiosity on a question its hard to find a manufacturers numbers for. But hey your post count went up, without much effort.Pot stirring thread.
You got my curiosity piqued, so i measured two barrels using go gages. A Savage stock barrel in 223, and an X-caliber 6mmbr Savage prefit.
.1285 and .1295 respectively. Neither is counter bored.
Not what you were asking about, but hopefully interesting nonetheless.
Do they though? I'd argue that the countersink can be loose and have no effect, and it's really just the bolt ring to barrel face clearance and the headspace from the bolt face to the shoulder that NEED to be right to be safe.so theres .001 difference in the one measurement on a savage that matters. Remington has 4 that have to line up

some do argue that way yes. ive seen remingtons chambered without the counterbore like a savage. not me but to each his own. theres a reason we set clearances where we do.
