Question for .20 and .22 shooters

Gentlemen,
If you could only use one bullet for the rest of your life in a .20 and .22 caliber to shoot coyotes, which two bullets would you choose?

Chuck

Chuck, 40gr V-Max and Berger 52gr Varmint. Both in 22 Caliber.

The V-Max for 223, K Hornet and such and the Berger for the 22-250's.

I believe the 20 is ballistically better than the 22. Look it up to be sure. If your a hide hunter the 20 will have less damage to the hide.

Uh Oh Neil, you've done it now. You have nearly made a definitive statement which almost always leads to an argument.

I will get it started. I don't believe real world conditions bear out your conclusion. LOL!!!!

So stop picking on my 22's. Don't tell anyone though but I would like to have a twenty built to play with.

I don't believe real world conditions bear out your conclusion. That why I said look it up.

I don't have a 20 either. I've been interested in one. If I decide to do one, it will probably be the 20x222.

I just got may barrel for a 22 Walldog, which is a 22 PPC run in shot by .125. Will start shorting cases this weekend.

Have a great day!!!!!!!!!

39gr Blitzking - most accurate and highest BC out of the 20 cal bullets I have tried. I have shot the 32gr V-max, 32gr BT, 40 BT, 40 V-max, 35 Bergers. This is out out of my LRPV

52a-max - always been a favorite of mine out of my 223LRPV. Would not shoot them out of anything bigger for coyotes they tend to explode.

I'd make it a 20 PPC out of Sako- 75 magazine fed shooting 40 grain V- maxes or 40 grain No Name Bullets.
It shoots them most excellantly
It would look like this.

I've been pretty impressed with the 35 Berger match, 20 cal. and still looking into the "Ultimate" for the 222 Rem; most likely the 40 Berger. Is there such a thing as "Best" ?? The fun part, albeit expensive, is the quest.

Been working too much Chuck!

Sorry for the slow reply.

Out of my 22 I like the 55 grain V-Max which I use in windier conditions. The 55gr flys great and hits with authority without blowing dogs up. Although at less than 100 yards I have had exits.

Out of my 20 I love the 39 grain bullets, they all seem to work regardless of the brand but they do get pushed around in the slightest breeze.

And coyote's crumble from the energy with no fur damage. I have never had a blow through with my 204 at any range.

Best of all factory ammo is plentiful for both!

MrMister,

I have 4 and 1/2 20s and I love them. Building a 20BR,
2, 204s,A 20 ackly hornet and a 20classic
For coyotes I like the 40 gn Bergs. I shoot dog towns out of the 20 akly hornet great on chucks and squrles will work on coyotes but a little explosive.
35 grn burgers are good but you need to hit proper, I do not like v-max.
In my 22 cal I ether shoot 50grn barns or 55 grn sierra game kings.
Hope this helps
Good Hunting Kevin

Hello fellas,great forum
For my .204 I've shot V-maxes,sierra,barns,and Berger. I would have to say my rifle likes the 39gr sierras the best. Shot only a few dogs with it,all under 200 yrds and 40 yrds being the closest with no exits.
As for the 22-250,it seems to shoot the best with Berger varmint HP,but have only shot coyotes with 55gr Sierra which is almost as good as the Bergers. If I had to choose between the two I would have to go with the 22-250 if your looking to anchor them on the spot.

well just to add my thoughts sadly dont have a twenty cal but use 223 rem as main varmint rifle three main bullets i love are for crows ect 40 grn sierra hollow point
our small furry friends 40 grn nosler balistic tips and for foxes i up that to a 50 grn sierra blitz king these three all serve me well and the 40s will stop a fox if he walks in the way
