Question - Cooper 51

Does anyone know why Cooper does not offer the new Model 51 repeater in a 20 Vartarg? Or if they will eventually offer it? Could a person request/order one from Cooper in the vartarg? I have never owned a Cooper, but like the 51 repeater and really think it would be a great rig in the vartarg.

Why don't you call cooper arms and ask them.

Cooper, Will order any barrel you want from any barrel maker as long as you are willing to pay the difference. Which is more than any other firearm company will do at any cost.

Yes k80skeet, I knew they were good about doing any barrel that you wanted and I did finally get around to contacting them....they say that as of now they have no intentions of making the model 51 repeater in a 20 vartarg because they say the cartridge is so small they believe they will have feeding problems from the magazine....they said that maybe at some time they would possibly look into trying to work on a magazine that would work but at this time it isn't even on the radar. I feel that if a .221 fireball will feed then the 20 vartarg should feed just as well but Cooper obviously views the vartarg as a concern for feeding problems. I believe they are missing the boat on this cartridge and rifle model but I think they are doing well with this cartridge in the model 21. I will probably have a vartarg barrel done for my Rem 700 switchbarrel and go with it. Thanks for your reply.

Call Cooper. If I remember correctly Shirley is the girl I spoke to. She took a lot of time explaining things to me. And I called more than once. Real nice people to work with.

I agree Cooper's people are really nice. I've had several dealings with them, I have 9 Cooper rifles but I would really suggest don't be the first to try a new idea or caliber with them. If you have a problem you'll be disappointed. Had a problem with a rifle they wouldn't address it. Had to pay two smiths to document the problem to prove the issue still after sending the rifle three times they gave up and wouldn't address it. I love their rifle but was very disappointed with the service I had with a problem.

Per Cooper's 2014 catalog, the model 51 is not available in 221 fireball also.
