Question about Zircon Sand.

I'm trying to find out some more info on this sand. I would like to
buy it locally so that I don't have to pay Sinclair's jacked up price and shipping for it.
Does any body know what this stuff is used for other than filling benchrest rear rifle bags?
Where would be the best place to try to find it? Gravel yard, Home Improvement Place?

Any details or info would be great....

Zirconium sand is made, not dug up out of the ground. That's one reason for the expense. About the only place you would find it aside from Sincairs would be from a speciality industrial supply house that handled abrasives and then only in bulk quantities.

Bruno's too.

Savage6br, businesses like Sinclair, Hart, and Bruno and a host of others support competitive shooting. Most of the guys who own or work at these businesses are shooters. Why would you begrudge them a fair profit on thir products? Older guys, like me) can remember when there were very few businesses that catered to shooters. Be thankful that they exist and support them every time you can. JMHO

I agree with Ray. I thank the stars that there are places like Sinclairs, Bruno's, Ron Hoehn, etc.

I don't consider Sinclair's price "jacked up" and the shipping's a flat rate regardless of your orders weight. That's more than I can say for some places that charge shipping based on the $$$ spent.
Not to mention that Sinclairs stand 100% behind everything they sell.

Perhaps if you could find a foundry supply you could buy in bulk. But why?

Just a note. I filled my rear bag with crushed garnet. I got it from my old work. we used it for the high pressure water-jet machines. but it should be able to be bought from any place that sells media for sand blasting. its very heavy and works great for me. while i whole heartily agree about supporting fellow shooters. I can also side with savage, the thought of buying heavy sand mail order was a little too much for me to justify. You might try looking in the phone book for a sandblaster or water-jet cutter job shop. they would most likely sell you a small quantity reasonably

I do support places like Sinclair, I have bought all of my bags, dies, solvents and misc. other items from these type of folks. But in the same token I have to be thrifty and spend my money wisely as I am not made of money. That's why my rifle is built on a Savage action which I did all of my own work on myself. I just can't justify paying 18.50 for 15 lbs of sand and shipping on top of that. I was just looking for alternative suggestions.
