Question about Shehane Tracker……Are they solid?

I need to get some weight off of my “big rifle”, based on a Bat M and a laminated Shehane Tracker Stock.

The rifle is close to 17 pounds now, with just a 24 inch barrel with at least 3 inches cut from the staight of a regular HV taper and a 24 ounce Valdada 36x mounted. As you can see, the scope mounts are pretty light, it has a plastic Remington trigger guard.

I am thinking about thinning the Tracker in places to get weight off, then refinishing. There is a lot of wood to work with.

my question is, are these stocks a solid laminate? I would hate to start chopping it up only to run into foam, or air.

They are solid unless it has the hole thru the butt toward the action.

Not in the cards. I have done a lot of work on this one, and it shoots great.

Notice I converted it to a screw in style shroud instead of the Bat block shroud.

If it is solid then drilling a hole up through the butt will get rid of a fair bit of weight as the laminate is heavy due to not only the wood but the glue that sticks all that together.
Even consider two to three holes as long as you leave at least a 1/2" of material hole to surface of the stock, it should be as stiff and strong as ever. Strength is in the diameter.

BTW: I have a Tracker stock on my Viper drop port action and love it.... {:~)

They're solid wood/laminate. No surprises in the ones I've done.

Just watch the balance. I took too much out of the butt and it messed it up (balance) bad. I had to use epoxy and shot to get the balance back.

Id take it out of the barrel channel

All the laminate one I've had were solid. The baby tracker had pockets milled under barrel channel.

Got mine from D&S supply Rock solid . Call them they will take care of you. Just my two cents Tommy Mc
