Shehane Baby Tracker Project

I log on to Bob Whites Shooters Corner every now and then to see what he has.

For quite some time he had listed a new Shehane Baby Tracker with just a barrel inlet. I figured what heck, so I bought it.

I finished all of the inletting and got it bedded for one of my Bat Neuvo‘s in 6BRA 1-12 twist to shoot the Barts 80 Dominator.. It is a bolt in with three bolts.

It makes HV weight.

The bedding came out pretty good,

Anyway, I am going to see how it shoots this Sunday. This barreled action shot quite well in a Robertson Stock.

I am going to put a clear coat finish on it after I see how it shoots.

I guess I want to see how a wood laminate stock performs compared to the synthetic Robertson.

What kind of clear finish did Shehane put on his stocks? I have a full size Tracker and it seems impregnable to anything. It came with some type of hard clearcoat.

I couldn't tell ya what he used, here's a couple shots of a polyester clear puk I peeled out of the cup this morning.

I'd use the easy sanding sealer to get started before clear

If I might, what is the difference between a Tracker and a Baby Tracker?

The Baby Tracker complies with the stock rules for IBS and NBRSA LV and HV classes in 100-300 Benchrest.

I took the rifle to the range today, it rained quite a bit, but in the let ups I shot these two 5 shot groups.

This is definitely an upper end load at 3360 fps with the Barts 80 grn Dominator, but it is shooting really consistent.

I rally like the way the Baby Tracker tracked. I will now put a finish on the wood, probably True oil.

Next is testing at 200 yards.

This evening, I rubbed down the final coat of TruOil on the stock, and installed a new 1-12 Bartien 26 inch barrel.

It looks pretty good. I will break in the new Bartlien Barrel Sunday. I hope it shoots as well as the Krieger.

I used Arm-R-Seal on a couple of Shehane MBR Trackers in African obeche a few years ago. Really liked the appearance on those two stocks. Bought one in French walnut color for a BAT 3L 6 Dasher, the other in Indian paint for a M700 Dasher.
